Unpopular opinion: strategically it made sense to avoid a summer single. It's so incredibly hard for artists to get legit hits post-album release in the streaming age these days, and Gaga doesn't exactly have the best track record of hit versus flop singles since like…. G.U.Y. That's why 911 was never pushed in the US and the last single was Rain on Me despite Chromatica having the highest opening of her career since Born This Way.

VIY and HDBYWM may have seemed like radio bait, but success was always going to be a long shot. With Disease already giving Mayhem one flop single, and DWAS still smashing in the summer, plus Dead Dance locked and loaded, it made sense for the album's narrative to not risk another flop.

Their real mistake was putting all that push behind Dead Dance when she had many better songs she could choose from. But I do think skipping a summer single was the right move all things considered. Sucks for the fan experience, but better for her image.

Like I said before, perform VIY in a beautiful, vocally-focused performance at the GRAMMYs and hope it goes viral so then she can tack on a final single next month to radio while she wraps the tours too.

In the real world no, but music journalists and chronically online Grammy voters do, and for better or worse Gaga has always played the game tried to appeal to them

Well, to be fair, during that time, Abracadabra and DWAS were still strong on the radio. The only options were to cut one of the two songs to replace it with a new single or keep both songs on the radio playlist.

TDD wasn't even in my top 10 from the album, but it's doing exactly what it needed to as an extended bonus single. The fact that it already has 150M streams in less than 5 months is looking really good. Even after all is said and done, it might reach 400M like Hold My Hand did. Getting 1x platinum here and there, Top 10 peak on Pop Radio, spent 13 weeks on the charts, and it's the 4th single from the album with an MV (Other fanbases have to beg for an MV for lead single). We should really appreciate it more rather than dragging it.

I hate HBDUWM but let's be real, that was an easy pop radio #1 for her.

MAYHEM era was still managed well overall, but it was just obvious from like June - September that there was a gap she could've filled with a radio song. It doesn't ruin the era by any means, but given GOE and HBDUWM were right there, it looks silly in hindsight.

Every era has different opportunities that weren't taken advantage of. I have no idea how much money it costs to truly promote a song to radio, it might've not had any monetary gain for Interscope, but that's not my job to worry about. As fans, we can just note the small gap.

Either way, she better send the era off with a bang at the GRAMMYs or with a surprise final video à la ARTPOP film/John Stunt Double/911. It was too good to not have a final hurrah with the tour close.

Omg tell me about it. Every time they discussing about actual stuff, they will start bringing up random Sabrina chart stats and random polls. Easily the most annoying member there

You're not alone in this one. I love it too even though I hate how the last chorus sounds. It's too flat if she made it stronger and louder and added some electric guitars, oh god heart2

Let's be real if she released a new mv for VYI and made it the official single DURING Grammies night like she did with abracadabra, she'd be a genius. It'd be a smash and there's no doubt in it, people LOVE vanish into you even outside her base. The potential is so big I really do believe she will make it a single.

Don't forget that on her album stickers it says "the 7th studio album featuring disease, abracadabra, vanish into you".

I don't believe their last decision was to change their minds and not to make VIY a single, but keeping it on stickers. There's a reason for it - let's just wait. I believe the Grammies is the moment for it or like later in February.
