Alright gotta while I like Donk (demo) there's nothing 2006yonce about it and as a massive Bidet fan I find this a waste of time. So I'm going to try to ignore this until the 4th.

I enjoyed the remix on my first and only listen, and even in agreeing with the critique, it's really not that deep.

Not to give an "above the drama" tea, but I'm gonna file this under: Hive being bored and remix dropping with no further context, thus fuelling the boredom and in turn the OTT responses.

The latter is noteworthy IMO, because I really feel that if the remix dropped alongside a press release, pre-order, tracklist, features list, etc, there'd been a much more positive response. In the absence of it, the already irritable Hive (see: Act III "delay") sees it has another "Jay thing" and are doing thee most.

Yet more proof that music itself is such a small part of music industry marketing and audience engagement. The context/climate in which said music lands tends to dictate the reception. Because IMO some of the Hive go up for way more basic/nothigy songs in her discography all in the name of those being better received by...others.

FYI: not ass kissing Hive by any stretch and actually don't even care all that much for ANY version of Donk lol, but it's always interesting to see ish like this in motion in real-time (bandwagoning and theatrics).

Most of the "backlash" is tongue-in-cheek, but I do think most of the Hive is just annoyed by her inexplicably delaying Act III (we are in a middle of a trilogy that is unfinished) and doing this detour out of nowhere with the B'Day reissue. Which would be okay, but we still do not know what the "reissue" means in her context. And on top of that releasing a song that has nothing to do with B'Day and putting in additional effort to do a remix pack (additional versions, verses, a string band, a visual?!). Like why are we putting all this effort into an old song and not Act III? Why is she spending time and effort to revitalize Jay's career AGAIN and not Act III?

First she acknoweledged the LEMONADE anniversary, then she did the same with Survivor. Now she's releasing B'Day 20th Annyversary Edition. Why now? She never did that before. If she wanted to release something while we wait for act iii, she could release CCT film, put RWT to streaming, release the live album. But why this? I know I might read into it too much, but maybe there is a reason why she is acknowledging album anniversaries

But if that is the case, why not release tour films and live albums? She has RWT ready, and CCT probably exists is some shape or form
