I wouldn't exactly call MORNING DEW "promoted".

All the lead singles for RENAISSANCE and COWBOY CARTER have had remixes, they all had visualizers. This is getting nothing those songs didn't have, the difference is the Hive doesn't like that it's getting treatment at all.

Why are we mad she's getting a cute lil moderate summer hit?

There is no further innovation that can be done beyond announced release and surprise release. They're binary options.

In case you've missed it, she's been experimenting with releasing music with no visuals for two album cycles now. Something that, as the premiere visual album artist of our time, is an innovation or at least a progression in the exploration of audiences' music consumption and their relationship to the music via abundant or a lack of visual accompaniment.

anyway, I am hoping that she does a live B'Day concert of some sort and then releases that live performance audio as the re-release, thereby allowing her to put out new content that isn't re-writing the era, giving us new arrangements and/or better mixing of the music, AND renewing interest in tracks.

now, is this likely to happen?
no, not at all.

can I dream? yes.
will I be angry with her if it doesn't happen? no, because we stan her, we don't stan our expectations.

For all the back and forth on here of late, THIS may be the most actual and factual take shared thus far!

It's not that Donk is any worse than her other "ok" songs

It's not that the Jay-Z remix is terrible - or, at least, not "as" terrible as claimed

It's not there is anything wrong with her releasing this promotional single for the reissue

BUT...

Her going "relatively" hard with this is annoying when thinking about the level of dust she paid everything on Rennie and CC post the leads.

I also don't get centering Donk (a non-B'Day song lmao)? I was certain we were about to get a new song/remix every couple of weeks. But sending to radio, playlisting, and now remixes and lyric videos. The confusion.

I hear you. But it's relative.

Donk was presented as a "gift to the fans" and a light nod to the semi-virality of the sound on social. A signal of the countdown to the B'Day reissue.

Without it "taking off" and simply doing "decently", they are now giving it the "lead" treatment.

What's even more worrying is that, if she follows the same trajectory as Rennie and CC, we shouldn't brace for the pushing of any other song on the project...including the better ones lol.

There is something thematic about a ST song coming out alongside B'day aside from just the song being a tik tok hit. When you think about it, B'day was the era where she started to get a little more spicy, sexy, scandalous. She cemented herself as a pop artist but she's not a little girl anymore. She was catching flack for hanging on grandpa's crotch in the Deja Vu video, she was doing sports illustrated, dreamgirls, etc. B'day's mission was to cement herself to let people know she was here to stay.

ST continues this trend but now Bey is a grown woman, she's a mother, she is trying to fight for the right for women to still be seen as sexual beings. You do not become undesirable once you give birth or when you hit your 30s-40s, you should love your body and embrace who you are and want you want.

It's two opposite sides of sexual desirability. B'day is her trying to be seen as serious or grown up, as opposed to ST Bey having to fight ageism and misogyny. "Why is she hanging on Jay's crotch like that, children are watching" "She just shakes her butt" to "Why is she trying to be sexual she's a mom" "This is not appropriate"

I feel like this B'Day reissue is really underpromoted because people are confused thinking Act III is coming soon or as if Morning Dew is an Act III single. It's like they're not paying attention.
