Ex-swifties, when did you unstan?

Featured Replies

I first stanned her during the Red era after being slayed by its opening track State of Grace.

I unstanned her in the Reputation era because I didn't like the music.

I became a Swiftie again during Folklore/Evermore, but had no choice but to unstan again with Midnights because the music was mediocre.

Unfortunately, the music has only gotten worse since then, and her capitalistic shenanigans have gone way too far.

I was more of a casual fan than a full blown swiftie but midnights made it obvious she was a lost cause.

I never identified as a Swiftie (even though my friends would still call me that) but TTPD was the final nail in the coffin for me, especially that week where she went out of her way to block Billie. That was an ugly move for an ugly album. Since then I went through major reassessment of her discography and realised that stanning Taylor Swift was a spell. You self brainwash yourself by listening to an excessive amount of her music and getting tangled up in her ego-centric "lore". Once you give her music a break that spell starts wearing off and her music starts sounding worse and worse between each break. Now I can clearly see her for her true mediocre self.

I think the major changes Ariana goes through are intentional and calculated by her label. I think the dark tan and accent she used to do was intentional to promote her as an R&B act, just as I think the new weak and vulnerable white persona is an act with the purpose of reshaping her public image after the Ethan Slater scandal.

It's totally not the swifties who have issues, you're right. That's why you guys are calling eating disorders an act and others in your base are fantasizing about Madonna's death across the forum, which is totally sane behavior.

I still like Taylor, but Showgirl and TTPD aren't her best by far

I unstanned during Boring Poets era but gave back my standing card entirely during The Life of Boring Girl era.

i think she's peaked artistically.

I stanned Taylor down during 1989 but I became more of a casual fan during reputation. Ever since reputation she has been kinda hit or miss for me personally, but I'll always keep watching what she's up to.

You're in that same thread trying to paint Michael Jackson as some kind of victim so I don't know what your point is

There was a whole rule added to the forum about making light of SA because of you guys.

I became a fan in 07, was perched for each album release. Saw her on the Fearless Tour. I'd say I probably loved her hardcore until the Lover era. It all started to go kinda downhill from there for me. Last year is when I decided that I was officially done with her. Showgirl is the first album of hers I haven't listened to.

I think the quality of music really went down during Midnights and TTPD but both albums still have amazing songs.

I think both albums have many songs that feel rushed or have super cheap production.

This time it's too much, for me. The production is from Max Martin but the songs sound like LQ music files from an mp3 player plus the sound itself has become super basic.

I know she needs to sound basic, if she wants to cater to a broad audience but I think it's borderline Spotify playlist fodder, right now.

When the Swift snark and SwiftNeutral subreddits kept flooding my feed. They poisined me!

TLOAS is bad but I won't unstan just yet when the rest of her discography easily shits on most other girls' :giraffe:

My boyfriend has a Reputation tattoo but says he doesn't like her anymore because all her music sounds the same since then :sabrina:

I'm not sure I was ever truly a Swiftie, but I did eventually buy copies of Speak Now, Red, Lover, evermore, and Midnights. I was more than a casual listener but not die-hard.

There were a couple of smaller factors, like the Matty Healy thing, that started to turn me off. And then some bigger issues, like her extreme overexposure, the quality of her music, and the questionable messaging in some of her songs. After reading the TTPD lyrics, I was finished. In fact, I haven't willingly listened to Taylor in over a year at this point because there's just nothing there for me, and I'm tired of her whole shtick.

I read someone refer to her as "the world's oldest teenager," and it's painfully true. I don't need more than YA-fiction songs about her playing the victim. It's unbecoming and not fun to listen to anymore.

In what universe?

I'm still a fan, but I don't talk about it much in real life because I'm afraid of being confused with one of those parassocial weirdos. Like, I saw her on the Eras Tour, I collect CDs (just one version per album) and that's about it. I think this disassociation stems from the fact I don't mind criticizing some things she does. Take the variants for example, they feel so desperate and tacky. You are the Taylor Swift girl, you don't need them! But anyone who says that will be crucified in Swiftie circles.

I was from 1989 up to Midnights. The countless re-releases of new songs pretending they were recorded back in 2010 + her antics and self-centeredness + TTPD and now Showgirl have completely turned me off.

I thought after TTPD having bad reviews she would course correct as she often does so it's very worrying that she put out an even worse album. But there's still hope I guess.

I thought being a Swiftie was like in the movie Weapons, both during and after.

THIS.

I liked her during 1989 but I was young so maybe that's why. I got turned off during the snake scandal and listening to the entire convo of her and Kanye where she told him she didn't think his line about him saying she owes him her career was bad but then at the Grammys on stage said the opposite. Like, that was such a red flag for me. Her personal life and multiple feuds just turned me completely off to the point where I am proudly a hater. I agree with what you wrote. Also, everything she's doing benefits only herself, she's not a very good human being and it doesn't help that she's a subpar vocalist, performer and her music has gotten worse. :deadbanana4:

I second this. Folklore and Evermore seemed like such an improvement in maturity, and imo they are the actual backbone of Taylormania. But she's been regressing since with each release. Midnights was fine, TTPD cringe-worthy and this one is just mind-bogglingly juvenile. She desperately needs a break but it's giving pokémon games that always break records so they just release yearly and never feel the need to improve.
