How do you calm yourself when stressed?

Featured Replies

So I got a new job and the work environment is so toxic I feel so overwhelmed when I come home and no matter what I do I cant seem to relax. Its so bad that I can't sleep properly last couple of days then I feel more exhausted mentally and physically. I feel like I can't tolerate stress well like it makes me sick. I don't know why everything is overwhelming me. I think I might be on the spectrum but maybe its just that im stressed out about having difficulty adjusting to my new job. Anyway I just wanted to vent, would be great if you guys can give me tips to calm down and regulate my nervous system :dancehall:

if a new job is effecting ur overall ability to function. i suggest finding new employment. ur health matters more.

in the interim u can take advantage of any pto/sick time on weekdays, check w ur doctor if u could get a reasonable accomodaion, or practice at home activities that make u happy.

I find the best ways to unwind are ones where you're able to shift your focus to something else and not think about anything but what you're doing in that moment. So something a little bit challenging. Maybe that could be cooking something you've never made before, learning a new sport, playing an instrument etc. Put your phone in another room too

Practicing mindfulness and appreciation have helped me long term.

With a new job there's a lot of new stressors, things to stress about - I would try to remind myself to leave those things at work and you can't control those things at home.

maybe a cup of hot tea and watch a movie

I always smoke weed

I think of Rupaul and say "No!" to the saboteur/the little voice in my head that starts to overthink and get anxious.

However, I was not able to manage/stop my anxious thoughts until I got on SSRIs. Now when it creeps up I can control it.

if it's really bad, I need to put away my phone and watch a series I really love, so I can get tuned  into the show and my thoughts shut off.
