I think what hurt her was that she flopped at the worst time with Bionic. In 2010, the market was oversaturated with pop girls smashing (Rihanna, Gaga, Katy, Kesha, etc.), so it was probably easier for her to be left behind. She flopped right at a time where the competition was rough.

Every album is being carried by singles, this rule applies to everybody. So with that in mind. Why is not everybody having 5 albums charting on Global Spotify?

Rihanna did not have massive debuts, her success was always relying on longevity and public support. And it paid off in the end, because everyone knows Rihanna's songs. However, nowadays, you could not name every modern pop star hits because they fizzle out.
