I mean this in the most polite way possible, but why is it mostly taylor fans who are so pressed about billie donating money and calling out billionaires? She literally never mentioned Taylor and it's not shade. 

 

And even if it's performative, she is saying the words that need to be said and donates massive amounts to causes that actually matter. Many people in positions of power could learn.

I don't think so, no. It also seems like every celebrity who advocates for good is labelled performative. Personally I don't think it matters if she is or she isn't as she's still donating and using her voice for good.

I don't get the feeling that she's being anything but genuine or doing anything but trying to build a world she wants to live in. I can't fault anyone for that.

And it's important to add that Mark Zuckerberg was in the audience and Billboard and other magazines said he didn't clap after Billie said that

It was off putting when she criticized artists for doing physical variants then turn around and do that exact thing (i get  she used recyclable material or what not put that's basically the same thing)

however, performative or not, she still donated and called out the billionaires in the process so she deserves praise for that. 

Well, she said the quiet part out loud which I've never heard an MPG say so YES, I do think it's genuine. I loved her speech! I hope others (my Dear Leader among them) will follow suit.

Nothing performative about donating to cause she has been passionate about for the longest time. The billionaire speech was just something extra, but people say this all the time and in a time where the needs of marginalized communities are being ignored while the 1% thrive in their ignorance it was absolutely needed. The "backlash" is just giving some fans of an artist being traumatized from all the lashings their fave has gotten within the past month so they think it's appropriate to unleash their frustration on anything someone does that they perceive as slight 'shade' even though no names were even mentioned & it could apply to any billionaire/multi-billionaire really

Billie’s activism isn’t really activism. I appreciate her donating money and speaking on matters. But, to me, activism requires a certain amount of risk and organizing that Billie (or any celebrity for that matter) doesn’t engage in. I go to protests and donate money; I still don’t consider myself as an activist. I feel like people have really cheapened what it means to be an activist to include celebrities, politicians, etc.

Didn't she complain about vinyl variants polluting the environment only to later release over 10 vinyl variants for HMHAS & 12 for Happier Than Ever? Then yes, her activism is mostly performative
