Eldest Daughter is terrible because it's so disjointed it feels like she's writing about seventeen different experiences in one song and is just trying to fill the word count on a Graduate paper essay. What's worst? The bridge is absolutely beautiful, and could have been perfectly suited for a song that was well constructed. Instead the bridge is wasted on this nails on chalkboard act of terrorism.

We won't have to worry about this change in discourse for Showgirl though, because a year later it's still bad. Minus the first four tracks, Ruin the Friendship, and Deluxe Edition tracks.

The chorus is probably her best chorus since the Midnights era. The chorus is simply, not clunky, yet effective at painting a perfectly clear picture of what's going on. Most importantly, it's catchy. I think the bridge fits the song... but she needs someone who can look at the bridge, and edit it to cut out unnecessary parts and chop it down. I think you can easily cut 2-4 lines from the bridge, and it would still get the same point across. It's just so WORDY. Production is ethereal though.

I think this would have been a much better received release. Obviously wouldn't compare to the 'folklore'/'evermore'/'Midnights'/'TTPD-TA' run.. but still not as awful. Even though it's one of my favourite on the standard, you can probably remove 'Ruin the Friendship' to make it more cohesive or remove both 'Ruin the Friendship' and 'Honey' and have a cute 8-track EP to tide fans over until Self-Titled TV.

I'd be fine with her going up on stage to sing 'Happy Birthday' if that means we'd get a f'ing live performance again. Oh Red TV era, I miss you.

Patient Zero and Babylon are clearing all of the Showgirl standard tracks for me, minus Father Figure, right now. Patient Zero and Babylon are ultimately quite the lovely pop songs which have an infectious beat to it, but because they're plagued by the Standard Edition people aren't event willing to listen to them for what they actually are.
