ballads on here are soooo freaking gorgeous and Bittersweet truly remains a modern Dancing on My Own-level serve clap3 wow @ Bad Enough, Healthy Habit, and Complexity

I really hope that Bittersweet continues to rise and becomes a big hit for her, I do not get how she isn't a MAJOR MPG yet huh

Madison Beer: locket

Read Grace Robins-Somerville's review of the album.

I think the Pitchfork review is fair. We keep seeing glimmers of what Madison could be (Yes Baby, Make You Mine, the electronic outro of Angel Wings) but she has far too much pastiche of other artists across the album and her career. As soon as she does something more original, she will move beyond this echelon of pop star.

It's a sentiment she explores more compellingly mid-record, in a four-song suite that describes stages of a codependent entanglement: "bad enough" sparkles with slow-building synths, using Auto-Tune to stretch Beer's voice like glitter-infused putty. Twinkly keys on "healthy habit" underscore rose-tinted memories of a shitty ex. On "you're still everything," she confesses, "I only exist in the moments you're talking to me" as lap steel glides through the background, and on the glimmering dream-disco "bittersweet," she gets the last laugh: "I'd say I'm done crying/But baby, I don't lie like you do." If these four songs were a standalone EP, it would be a showcase of Beer's pop prowess; instead they're an island in a sea of weaker, more derivative tracks. Main pop girl stand up.

I fear I kinda agree with Pitchfork this time. This is my favorite run of tracks and what feels the most unique to Madison, along with Complexity. I would've scored the album closer to a 7 though.

yo I love this album, I wasn't expecting anything when I gave it a listen. It was my first time listening to her.

angel wings is so ******* clever??? those lyrics??? it's such an incredible song. and i love yes baby, you're still everything, complexity, make you mine...what a great album. what a mood.

i agreed with more if it than i usually do with them - i fear that it doesn't really step out of the shadow of its influences often enough - tho i agree it's a 7 rather than a 6 cos i actually enjoy listening to pop music.

the thing i really did disagree with tho is that i don't think that it is following trends - tho it did occur to me - because who's making records that sound like eternal sunshine and five y/o billie songs to get attention now? i do just kinda feel like that's her vibe

(i also thought the idea that yes baby was an addison rip off was a bit laughable and testament to p4k being desperate to shoehorn her into any popgirl conversation these days)

This album really grew on me. I'm on my 2nd listen of the day. Fav album of the year so far.

this is probably one of my favourite Madison songs yet! it's so cute

After absolutely loving Bittersweet, I was a bit underwhelmed with the rest at first, but the album really grew on me. I think it was the fact that we knew all the uptempo songs already, but there are some truly beautiful songs. My favorites are You're Still Everything and Bad Enough. The transition from the intro into Yes Baby works incredibly well and is so cool
