Tears undeperformed, why?

Featured Replies

I've personally listened to it about 5-10 times and watched her perform it live at her Austin City Limits and the VMA performances and I honestly still can't hum a single bar of it.

Espresso, Taste, and even the awful Manchild were more instantly catchy.

I think it might be too explicit lyrically AND people are over the disco vibes.

Luckily she has PLENTY of options for singles and it isn't harming album sales in any way! :coffee:

I don't really think she has many other singles to choose from. Most of the album sounds pretty similar and forgettable. It was rushed and it shows. After making so many flop albums before her success, maybe she has more self awareness than we think and knows this is her only chance to rake in millions.

it is my favorite from the album and i like the retro disco songs she does.

That Tik Tok challenge of the shirtless guys grinding could only do so much

The disco 70s/80s pop sound is getting really reductive. The only one recently who's done it right is Doja. And the song is too dirty.

A little too explicit to thrive on radio and with younger audiences.

However, not every single has to be a super smash, and we can't cry "flop!" every time that happens.

It still peaked at #3 on Billboard Hot 100, is on track to hit 200 million streams on Spotify by the end of the month, and is pulling in 2+ million daily streams.

I don't see what the over analytics is about when her album has been in the top 10 since it's release, with SNS not far behind. She just needs to release another single

Horrible song by a horrible artist. In another era she'd be a one hit wonder with Espresso being considered a fun novelty song, but in today's apocalyptic marketplace she's able to ride the wave longer. Probably diminishing returns though.

it also felt like the Short n Sweet era never ended so Tears is performing like a pointless 7th single.

I think this is a big factor. They really didn't promote this album as its own entity much. Yeah the album cover got the controversy, but she's not even performing many of the new songs on tour (one that's promoting her last album, mind you). It's all very awkward.

It tried to be Jessie Ware's Pearls and missed the mark. It's too dense and clunky lyrically.

I love Jessie. But Tears probably surpassed Pearls' entire run in its first week. :rip:

Because it's literally a ******* boring ass song and brings nothing new to the table. The schtick is up. She better ditch the overt kitschy lyrics for her next album or the GP will write her off completely. This always happens. She's becoming a parody of herself already and it's not hitting like it did just a year ago with S&S.

She needs to take a two year break and come back with something fresh and more mature. I don't make the rules! :suburban:

This is what happened when you tries to please Gay community.

Some have said before she could have a katy perry esque trajectory that would make this era her prism, manchild was her roar a hit but not as big as prior hits :flower: sns = teenage dream

What is "Tears"? Which sophomore album? Y'all need to be more specific, I think of Charli feat. Caroline Polachek.

Boring, lazy, lifeless song she churned out in 5min. A total non-event

I really liked SNS but I found this whole album, including Tears, to be a watered down version of it. I'd love to see her pivot both with subject matter and production next album.

The world is ready for Olivia her comeback and is over this fraudulent drag race blonde wig auto play placeholder.

because Vampire>>>>Manchild and Bad Idea Right>>>>Tears

GUTS>>>>Annabel's Best Friend
