The backlash is because Ed, an artist who portrays himself as a compassionate and empathic human, seemingly did nothing to prevent the censoring of a humanitarian voice raising awareness of an ongoing genocide. What Macklemore did was brave. What Ed did was cowardly. Him bending over to the will of a pro-Israel billionaire is forcing a very important conversation: there is no such thing as being "apolitical". Silence in the face of injustice is a political decision. If Ed's tour is collateral damage to this very important and society-changing conversation, I think that's worth it. People who are upset about that are probably really just upset that in real-time, the influence of the pro-Israel lobby is being exposed to the world. And now we see those people for who they are very clearly.
