work has been so f*cked up tonight cause the internet isn't working in the lobby so I haven't been able to even log on to my system  it's the perfect time for my first listen though so I'm about to

 

Shapeshifter completely scalped me wtfff.

Shapeshifter is already giving me some early 2010s pop vibes, almost Rose Colored Glasses by Kelly Rowland vibes lol 

Shapeshifter is so beautiful, wow the outro 

Listening to Broken Glass at the gym is definitely an experience 

oh yeah that glam rock beat on Favourite Daughter  

Current affairs is standing out so far

wow Favourite Daughter is one of her all time best, she's serving Bowie, George Michael, Marina, Kimbra, AND St. Vincent all in one… fabulousness 

Current Affairs omg… this production is dirty and raw and UNREAL and then that post-chorus with the sample is NUTS  the definition of progressive pop fr, what a detailed and unique song!

Clearblue is very Hide and Seek for sure, but the tone also gives me a bit of We Are the Dead by Bowie in its tone

I am not the biggest Lorde fan (I actually did enjoy SP tho, while still recognizing it was her weakest album) and I think the album is truly on par with Melodrama !

Absolutely gorgeous

On first listen nothing surpassed Hammer for me.

 

Shapeshifter and Current Affairs were memorable. Other songs didn't leave an impression.

 

When Shapeshifter started I was like what in the Leonard Cohen spokenword over a garage beat is this lol... But the violins and the distorted synths made it click.

 

I think only Current Affairs delivers on her promise. She should've went deep on the controversy angle. Feels like she was on the edge of exploring the male psychology but got scared to cross the line. It shows how feminine she is actually. Repeating the words spit, p*ssy, drugs etc throughout the album isn't the male instant gratification. It's a woman playing guess on how a man thinks. She should've gotten gross actually, actually spit on the mic, moan, record herself having sex etc ... Her p*ssy is already on the vinyl insert, might as well go full throttle with it.

 

This album sounds like a boring girl tried drugs to be interesting and can't stop yapping about it. Talking about MDMA therapy on Stephen Colbert is sooo sanitized I'm sorry... and she thinks people would be turned off by this record? Only swifties will be enraged by its content. Her roll out overpromised on the controversy by spoiling every surprise. I actually really loved her press statements after finding out she sang about the Tommy & Pamela sextape...

 

Hammer is A+ though. I'll keep listening to that. That's one more than Solar Power.

 

I think she is confined by the structures of pop music. She should make longer songs with different, freeflow structures to really make her ideas pop. In this state it reminds me of Kacey Musgrave's Star Crossed album.

 

I'm kinda sad how stans panned Radical Optimism but will glaze this record when RO is a very well done, very good pop album. Virgin will not get half the lashings despite committing the same offense of overpromising and underdelivering.
