With Lorde albums, I always tune into the production first. It's just how my brain works—I want to hear the textures, the moods, the little sonic choices that carry emotion, even before I catch the lyrics.

 

That said… is it just me, or is she kind of hard to understand sometimes? Like, is she whispering through a wind tunnel? Or did the production just straight-up eat her vocals alive? Either way, it creates this hazy, ghostly vibe that I can't stop replaying in my head.

But then… DAVID happened. That song didn't just slap—it rebooted my entire nervous system. The static-electric production? *****, I blacked out. I'm currently being held together by coffee and blind faith.

 

Second and third listens will be for decoding lyrics, pretending I'm deep, and figuring out if Lorde actually said what I think she said… or the weed ive been smoking is really strong

might be because I've been exposed to the longest but I loooove those two songs 

If She Could See Me Now, Broken Glass and Favorite Daughter are my big faves from this album!!!!!

This is the first album in soooo long that I can't even really begin to pick my favorites without meaning that in the "none of it stood out positively" way.

 

I genuinely think I've been waiting for this exact album, sonically, like in terms of the production, for what feels like years now. I've looked for it in so many other artists' recent projects, waited for someone else to release it, hunted in spaces I'm not used to - and I've found really cool things, but not this. And then it turns out I was just waiting for Lorde!

 

I can't even put it all into words. There's just something about the rough, glitchy, unrefined edges to some of these sounds and synths, the more acoustic instrumentation mixed in and juxtaposed, the way she writes feelings and experiences, the way it feels like it fits into the dark liminal spaces between concrete emotions and moments and places and aesthetics and genres and moods -

Thank God otherwise she will have an even shorter stay than Miley(Probably will be the case on BB200 tho)

The production from looping David back to Hammer is immaculate if you haven't checked it out on repeat all.

It's giving how I felt about evermore I am afraid!!! (compliment!)

This album just reminds me so much of why Lorde is so special as a popstar. We are genuinely lucky to have her. She just captures feelings in a way that not many popstars do. No matter what people say about her, they will never be able to erase her impact on pop music.

Broken Glass is hitting on second listen 

@Clearblue is so Charli meets Bon Iver coded for me and I just can't ignore how resonating the opening lyric after the ecstasy testing for pregnancy praying in MP3 is.

well it's becoming more and more evident that she will never top Melodrama but this was a cute album with a unique concept. and also Shapeshifter is a masterpiece.

Everything just blends together on first listen. Will give it a dozen more listens for it to sink in....
