ijbol remember when Solar Power had no CD bc of her climate activism - she said F the planet for this album, we cheered!

  • new track in 3 days.

  • I believe Melodrama remains her magnum opus, but Virgin sounds absolutely incredible. It's the Lorde we know, yet it also feels incredibly refreshing. In Hammer, she mentioned, "I might be born again,

It's nice but I'm not connecting to it instantly like with Melodrama, except for Shapeshifter and Broken Glass. Maybe I just need more time with it.

My ranking for now:

1. Man of the Year
2. Current Affairs
3. Shapeshifter
4. Broken Glass
5. Hammer
6. Favourite Daughter
7. Clearblue
8. David

It makes sense that those are you favorites if you're a Melodrama girl/boy/non-binary. This album is more experimental, but give a few listens more, and I think you'll like it as much as we do.

They have added more reviews, so the average on Metacritic should improve!

Where's "Man of the Year"? :cries:

Edited by bielneira

Melodrama > PH > Virgin > SP

But it's growing on me with each listen

it's weird seeing people saying that's it not connecting the way melodrama did 'cause i remember all too well how green light and the album were received

I am loving this album as much as I had anticipated!

For now, my fav new tracks are favourite daughter, Shapeshifter and Broken Glass

well done, Ella!

Right. The way my excitement dipped when I heard Green Light for the first time and now I adore the song

There's a level of dramatic irony now to me with the lyric: "You met me at a really strange time in my life" in Man of the Year because that's what this album did to me—it came and articulated a lot of feelings that I've just started unpacking in therapy not too long ago.

Lorde executed the vision she had for this album really well, where most songs would teeter over the edge of sonic euphoria but falling back and (frustratingly!) not reaching it, creating unresolved tension in oneself. In a lot of ways, it mirrors my current self-discovery journey where I'm in the middle of it and I don't have all (or any of) the answers yet; experiencing silent catharsis to spite decades of pressure that's both societal and self-imposed.

I just feel so seen by this project.

Me too bestie, me too!

I'm almost done with it and I like 3 or 4 tracks but I feel some tracks are noisy for no reason, not sure if they were intended to be that way but anyways, the tracks I really like are actually quite good: Shapeshifter + Current Affairs + If She Could See Me Now

i want to hug all the tasteful ATRLers enjoying this right now, wish we can come together and party to it :date2:

If you're talking about the ones I feel you're talking about, the answer is YES

Revisionist history. I fear for me my initial reception of Melodrama kinda stuck. The songs I liked the most remained and while exposure to the others did help me perceive it more fondly, I had an instant knee jerk reaction to it following Pure Heroine since I found it too mainstream and at the time I was very against that.

I swear every single era the reception is lukewarm to mildly positive but in 2 years everyone says they loved it all along :deadbanana2:

I kinda only really like Shapeshifter :suburban: Melodrama really did a number on me

I feel like the production is kind of boring and muted on this, she would've done well with someone more daring

……the bass in Virgin's production could literally impregnate someone

:suburban:

Really curious to see @RideOrDie break their silence and share their thoughts on the album with the rest of us

Jus like with SP, I don't think it's for me

may give it one more listen but I found self not caring about listening as the album kept playing
