early ranking...

1. If She Could See Me Now (THIS WAS THEE CREATIVE DIRECTION :jonny:)

2. Shapeshifter

3.What Was That

4. Hammer

Nothing else stood out for me. less better than Melodrama and Pure Heorine, above Solar Power. those 4 year-breaks need to stop if she wants to become a big alt-pop artist again I said it countless times.

ijbol remember when Solar Power had no CD bc of her climate activism - she said F the planet for this album, we cheered!

  • new track in 3 days.

  • I believe Melodrama remains her magnum opus, but Virgin sounds absolutely incredible. It's the Lorde we know, yet it also feels incredibly refreshing. In Hammer, she mentioned, "I might be born again,

THESE SONGS ARE WAY TOO ******* SHORT WTF... they could have all been 1 minute longer!!!!

What a great first listen. Omg I'm already dying to listen again tomorrow morning. I really enjoyed the album and think I'll love it after another listen or two.

She is so back :jonnycat:

But it works for Adele

Interestingly, this album is very light on the non-binary gender aspect. It's an extension about girl so confusing remix and a rehash of themes she's always exploring post Pure Heroine—disillusionment of fame, loss of a normal teenage experience. (She started Melodrama about the disillusionment of fame before changing)

Yeah genuinely my only complaint is that half the songs could use an extra minute. That's kind of a good problem to have with the album!

I have to say it, the worst thing about Lorde is the fanbase, they're always looking for the past in an obsessive way, kind of exhausting, poor Lorde to be honest.

GRWM seems incomplete somehow but she's a cute girl

On first listen:

  1. What Was That
  2. Man Of The Year
  3. Shapeshifter
  4. If She Could See Me Now
  5. GRWM
  6. Favourite Daughter
  7. Hammer
  8. Current Affairs
  9. David
  10. Broken Glass
  11. Clearblue

Wait what is this ED BOP. Broken Glass has me cryin and throwing ass

Why is she serving Mariah vocals in Broken Glass whew

IF SHE COULD SMASH ME NOW

this is such a good direction for her

Oh this is bad she's lost it, doubted it with SP, confirmed with this. it's like she learned about the woman body and gender studies 101 for this album, the production alone cannot save the fact that there's not one good hook in the entire album, just 16 year old lyrics about growing and being wild lol

everyone is just choking on the little droplets that allude to melodrama

If the first 2 singles are the best songs off the album this is a bad sign :chick2:

truly. she is one of those artists who gets better with every release. always evolving

Like perhaps I'm looking too deep into this but, this in Shapeshifter...

Give 'em nothing personal
So I'm not affected

And then immediately switches to a more... accessible? production and she switches from her free verse kind of lyricism (most of her songs don't really follow traditional rhyming structure that a lot of pop songs have) and she reduces these thoughts to easy to digest and understand similes that only brush the surface of what she's going through personally while also expressing what she does in these situations to separate herself so she's not affected.

I've been the ice, I've been the flame
I've been the prize, the ball, the chain
I've been the dice, the magic eight
So I'm not affected

It's so genius. :clap3:

Half of these could've used extended outros but I am kinda impressed how quickly and smoothly this all flows
