really excited for this one! the 4 songs released so far are pure perfection.

fantastic album. kinda on the same level of WIMPIII but not quite as legendary as Days Are Gone. Gone, Lucky Stars and Now It's Time are career highlights.

 

 

my ratings of the individual tracks. The Farm is the clear bottom one.

 

track run from 6-10 is kinda immaculate

having not heard anything else from this band i decided to give this a shot as a new release and

yeah this is pretty great! I really love the production and how varied the tracklist is

def will make sure to come back to this over the year, my favorite was Million years

i'm about 2/3 of the way in and it hasn't blown me away but i am enjoying it. i remember that it took me time to fully appreciate "women in music" and i think there's something to work with here, i want to come back to this

 

meanwhile, someone's drawn my attention to this early pre HAIM tune which could help get the rest of ATRL on board, we need them to return to the old traditions

 

 

This is solid overall but also kind of a mixed bag. I feel like they could use an editor because this didn't need to be 15 tracks imo… Hopefully it will grow on me. 

 

The first two singles are by far the best songs for me but Lucky Stars is a highlight from the new songs.

Well, considering it took me a long time to really appreciate "WIM", this one was really instant for me. I really loved the lyrics and production.

It might be my favorite, although they'll never beat "I know alone". That track is one of my all-time favorites.

Yeah, their last album took me maybe a year or two to really click so while I enjoyed this on my first listen it didn't blow me away. But I'm looking forward to more listens! Immediate thoughts are that it seems a bit disjointed, like there's no clear narrative across the album. Things could have been sequenced better. Singles are some of the strongest tracks, Relationships being the obvious standout.

First impressions had me knocked over with the George Michael sample on Track 1.

 

Crying and Blood on the street were two standouts for me. Este the vocalist!

 

I really liked Lucky stars as well. Also there was a track that had a UK Garage beat under their usual California style which I thought was really cool.

 

Great production from Danielle and Rostam throughout!

really not feeling this album  i've LOVED all their past releases, but this one is just not doing it for me for some reason...

I love the micro sub-genres swimming through the entire album. Another great record by HAIM, they don't fail for me.

I'm loving this album... 

Def a few standouts amongst a bunch of otherwise "pretty good" songs. I Enjoyed my second listen more than the first, and will ofc keep listening. There's just nothing wow'ing me at all.

 

Vocally, too, this is a very unimpressive album. They've never been vocalists really, but this is the most monotonous and "easy" /unadventurous album of theirs vocally by far; all in the same register basically..

 

But where they didn't push themselves at all vocally, they definitely did lyrically. I am SO excited to pay attention to all the words on my third listen in a bit
