    ARTPOP wins for me, but Jewels n Drugs is worse than anything on MAYHEM. imo it's still too early to tell how MAYHEM is going to age, I can see Zombieboy, Abra, and Garden of Eden overtaking their counterparts in the future

    evenly matched when compared like this but i prefer mayhem. it has higher highs and the worst songs on it are better than the worst songs on artpop.

    ARTPOP still her best album yes 

    Listen, I love ARTPOP. It showcases Gaga's maximalist artistry at its most absolute, its loudest, its most unrestrained. And we love that! It yields some of the more interesting artistic statements she made post-Born This Way, even though the era was subject to some truly unfortunate twists and turns that cut it short.

     

    But Mayhem, honestly, stomps on it and grinds it into dust. I don't know if it's a consequence of the very different processes by which they were created, with ARTPOP having several tracks wherein the instrumental existed before Gaga put words to it and without consideration to her core artistry. I don't know if it's perhaps that by the time of ARTPOP, she was already beginning to experience some of the personal and emotional things she says impacted eras like Chromatica. Maybe part of it is that ARTPOP is too focused on a particular idea and vision that too often strays from that core "Gaganess" that so obviously comes forward on here first three albums and that has returned in full force on Mayhem. Whatever it is, Mayhem comes out very far ahead. Whatever I can appreciate here, though, is that Mayhem still respects ARTPOP's place in her artistry and legacy with several tracks that make sonic nods to sounds, ideas, and approaches from the ARTPOP era (Abracadabra being highly Venus's for example), usually reconciled with other elements of her artistry (to use the same example, Abracadabra having a sense of lyricism that calls back to earlier Gaga projects and having a video in TFM/BTW style).

    Overall as a project, at this moment I prefer the one and only ARTPOP but MAYHEM is her sister for sure.
