Doja Cat - "Jealous Type"

Featured Replies

Yeah i'm sad this underperformed, many factors including the dragged out release contributed. I don't think the scarlet era is having much of an impact on the commercial success as much as you're all expecting. The GP really doesn't care and they will consume regardless of what happens online. Its lack of viral moment on tiktok (and alike) that has stopped this from taking off, I genuinely feel like the GP are still not aware of this song being out.

But this is easily one of her most accomplished pop songs, had her highest solo debut streams, and had great reception upon release (minus the ATRL users who switch as soon as they see commercial performance)

Not worried about this album in the slightest and it's a good chance to try and transition her from a singles artist to an album artist since everything is sounding and feeling so consistent. I'm sure theres a hit or two on the album, RCA just need to let tiktok pick her next single and push with all force, it really is the best strategy these days.

I really love the song, it's so good but maybe it's a bit too 80's camp for the GP. I mean, it's a lot of camp and things going on.

MTE! I also think part of the blame is on Doja for not pushing her songs on TikTok like, at all. :priceless:

I swear if she bothered to post some snippets on the clock app there's a high chance this would've been more of a moment lol. Agreed on the fact this very well could be the album that establishes Doja as an album artist which is honestly much needed at this point. :bird:

For some reason i love the song when watching the MV, but if I stream just the audio it doesn't do a lot for me

i knew this would either be a #1 smash or an underperforming gay fan fave

but i'm over people acting like this is some basic 80s throwback song, no one really tapped into this Janet type sound it was mostly just the disco/synthpop trend

Predicted to remain at #49 (=) at Hot 100 this week

Not even the VMAs make this song rise

It's stable because of radio…would've fell even harder last week if this is all due to Spotify lol.

It's still climbing on radio, which I know has RCA shitting in their pants about the next move.  It's not like they can just move on.

So sad this isn't a hit :cries:

Don't know what they could do. Obviously they need to push a streaming/TikTok hit but JT is still climbing on the radio charts...

I can't help but think of her next album look/feel, hoping it's a Planet Her 2.

some of the 80s imagery is a serve but a lot of it falls flat.

Yeah its a flop. Hopefully Gorgeous fares off better.

Not confirmed second single.  I honestly just think it's for a MAC commercial lol.

I'm still bopping to her vmas performance of it, doja always slays a live performance :gaycatina1:

As someone who stans mostly a lot of flops... life becomes a lot more enjoyable when you focus on the art instead of the charts  :swing:

OT: Jealous Type is currently my most played song from the last 4 weeks... I am sooooooo ******* ready for this album

Isn't this her last album on her Kemosabe/RCA deal? @professor2000

I wonder what an era without the constraints of major label pressure would sound/look like for her…

Tbh I'm not even sure how long she has left.

Do we know if Dr. **** had any writing/producing credits on the album :chick2:

i'm still bopping but the performance has me a little bit worried, two flop leads in a row is never a good look. let's hope she has a PTTR and Agora Hills to save the era again

PTTR was always meant to be the commercial lead though.  They already had ads going up in LA promoting it when Attention came out.

And even if it wasn't…PTTR ended up being her biggest hit of her career after a "flop." So idk if we can take that as a signal of bad things to come lol.

Now JT not doing well is def more concerning, given all signs show it was meant to be the commercial lead.  But even with that…there are so many other potential hits from what she's previewed.  Not too worried as long as she actually promotes the album.

When the writing credits leaked I don't think his name was present.  At least not as a writer…but he couldve conned his way into production credit.

But it feels like Y2K and Jack Antonoff did majority of production based on recent interviews.

"The 80s has been beat to death"

No, the late 80s early 90s sound was beat to death with The Weeknd's MJ cosplay for a few years. Doja's "80s" sound is less generic and I hear more actual 80s and 90s influences in it. Doja's new song sounds like a mix of Whitney Houston and En Vogue, the 80s sound wasnt "beat to death" the fake millennial non authentic version of 80s music was beat to death.
