Someone important in my life shared a self-help article from a neocon touted news website. It reeks of toxic positivity.

The moment I saw such website's "reporting" on the genocide in Palestine, I was turned off by the fake news and pro-Israel stance.

 

Am I overthinking about his political beliefs? And if he is a neoconservative, is that a bad thing?

I have always been proud of the fact that despite my often extremist left wing stances, I can build wonderful relationships with people who I completely disagree with, it's not a common trait in fellow gen z's but it's necessary to a healthy society.

 

I'm finding it very difficult to not go nuclear on these people in light of current events. We can try to educate, and we can agree to disagree on a lot, but I personally cannot personally overlook support for genocide or for sending Nazi squads to raid schools and places of business, profiling and then kidnapping people who look a certain way to chain them up and herd them like cattle out of their homes. Anybody who isn't immediately repulsed by conservatism in any form or at least desperately trying to distance themselves from that ought to be the ones stripped of their rights and rounded up, they already have freely renounced their humanity. Neocons love the militarism that has allowed the US to facilitate or directly do these things.

My younger brother was getting red pilled by his discord group chat (all straight males). I have taken it upon me to constantly show him how things really are, for instance I explain to him the dangers of neoliberlism, capitalism, fascism, etc. He seems more informed now and refutes his friends on many of those topics. Maybe you could try that?

You have enough of an understanding of neoconservatism to know what it means and the kinds of people that subscribe to it, but you don't know if it's bad or not?

I did this to my brother and my parents over the course of the last two years and I feel like last Sunday we finally reached a breakthrough where my family *got* it. 

 

They're not the type to admit they were wrong about things but what got through to them two weeks ago when my mom was complaining about consumer protection organizations sueing supermarket chains for price fixing/false advertising and she was parotting talking abouts „these people are clogging up the courts with this nonsense, we have so many other more important problems".

 

All it took, was me saying „Mom, the people you complain about want the same thing as you want. They want that you feeding yourself actually nutritious food doesn't bankrupt you. They don't want big corporations to mislead you with their advertising. These people want to HELP you, they're taking the financial risk to stand up against the big corporations so you don't have to personally suffer." 

 

Like… people ACHE for leftist policies, they sometimes just don't realize it. Next phonecall I had with my mother she sounded like union leader

In all fairness, some people don't realise that the sources they are sharing are untrustworthy/people with an agenda especially if they don't follow politics so I wouldn't write them off for one post. If it's their actual political beliefs then yes, it's a giant red flag.

"Red flag" is subjective. What's a red flag to some is green to others. Think for yourself.

It really depends on what you mean by neoconservative and the things he stands for. 

 

Already defending a criminal state like Israel is a bad thing, so I assume there is more to his beliefs.
