Even in China, it can vary a lot but I think younger people are generally accepting but almost every Chinese queer person I know isn't out to their parents even in Hong Kong which is generally much more socially progressive. Whilst, it's not the worst place to be gay, the Chinese government is generally not supportive under the guise of family values and restricts media content showing gay people (BL is still hugely popular despite this). Shanghai and Hong Kong pride are also no longer a thing sadly. That being said, I went to a gay club in Guangzhou and it was awesome. Shenzhen sucked though!

I don't know if Commmunism is achievable but it's not a coincidence that most countries that rank highest for quality of life have the most generous social welfare policies and would be considered the most left wing (at least economically).
