Ever since Linkin Park announced their comeback with new lead singer, Emily Armstrong, who is associated with the Church of Scientology and supported a fellow r-word, the rock group has been hit with backlash even Chester Bennington's son not liking it.

 

so, is Linkin Park doomed?

They've been doomed since 2012 when they released their last good song Burn It Down 

It's not like they even had much commercial success the last decade. Their original decade run was historic though and that will remain their legacy in the end. 

Just for context: this Chester son is a very messy one - Chester's wife even has a restraining order against him and he HATES Mike and believe on every conspiracy theory revolving his father death. I doubt Emily will speak about Scientology but she already spoke very clearly about Masterson. I don't know what else to say towards this situation, honestly. 

 

But they're not doomed since their new single is getting good reviews, nice streaming numbers without radio or big playlist placements, and their whole catalogue got a massive boost since the song premiere. 

Most rock fans, especially fans of older groups don't care about stuff like that... 

I honestly think no one cares plus she's already addressed her past

 

not sure why they couldn't pick someone with less baggage but okay 

 

they had to know this would come out at some point  

They're a legacy act, and their fans are old enough to not get into random controversies, they'll just go to the concerts for nostalgia and that's it

My straight friend excitedly told me about her without even mentioning her past. They are safe, trust me. 

I'm also a Linkin Park fan and I think doomed is a too strong word for this situation. 

The new song is smashing so idk

I doubt it. Too many people have done worse and are still somewhat successful (i.e. Travis Scott)

 

Their original legacy will always be with In the End, Numb, Minutes to Midnight, New Divide, etc.

 

It's been over seven years since Chester died as well. They had to grieve him along with everyone else so I feel like they felt it was the right time to move forward.

If anything they are geting their biggest hit since 2012

They should have just formed a new band with a new name, it isn't Linkin Park without Chester.

It was not necessary for them to return with a new vocalist. Imagine if Los Dinos had done the same without Selena

Straights doesn't care for any of this as long they like the music (which is why their song is a hit rn)

Getting a lead singer whose part of an evil cult that denounces psychiatric help (among committing countless other atrocious), considering the tragic ties the band has with mental health, both through Chester and their music, is monumentally dumb. 

 

American culture is weirdly tolerant of Scientology and it needs to stop.

Just like every other rock band from the 00s.

 

No one really stayed relevant or successful. The music wasn't on par with the early materials. 

 

They should've just call it quits ngl

no, the twitter virtue signaling is tired and idiotic  just look at the spotify numbers, the go does NOT care

Ironically thier music is trending more, so the press is actually helping. 

I think they will have a succesful era, the hype for a return was there, they have a devoted core fanbase as well 

 

I just wonder how long they will be able to last. One og member left before reuniting, an other one is only recording studio member. It will be interesting to see how long this will stay sustainable.

rock band always sale and tour with endless gigs and merc, talk about doomed group, example as limp biskit doomed long time ago and still getting occasional albums out then stay in the scene just fine. same thing with hair band hard rock 80's thrash metal those are on tours atm.

 

linkin park, idk i dont care after third album but their relevency is too strong to be doomed with successful comeback single and charting reletively high. no  

no the new song is a bop .. a lot of bands have moved on after deaths and fans supported.    It's only because that weird cult thing came out is what made them step back a little

 

im hoping eventually it will be moved on because I really would like this new album and for them to tour Australia.  Last time I saw them live was 2013 and as a long time LP fan I'm supporting them either way because im here for the MUSIC
