I wonder how a banning method like this would hypothetically hold up in the US constitutionally. Typically, age discrimination is perfectly constitutional as age is not a suspect class. But this type of age discrimination is a bit different than typical age discrimination as instead of banning below a certain age… it bans completely after a certain birth year.

A good idea in theory but completely impossible in practice without inflating the black market.

We had this same policy here in NZ

 

Until the new government got in, promised tax cuts (which are f all anyway) and repealed this to balance the books

I'm... not sure I agree with this. It's a good idea in theory as absolutely smoking is bad for one's health (I've never been a smoker) but it's also someone's prerogative to do so in my view. I also don't know if it will be effective and as people have said - it'll just inflate the black market.
