It's a cute bop but I think it'll have to grow on me. I loved Houdini and TS immediately so we'll see

DSN + FN + P are notably stronger as an intro to the album than H + TS + I are... And She absolutely does not feel more confident vocally or sonically than FN.. Let's see what the BMH of RO is right before or with album release I guess. 

 

I still have hope the other 8 songs or so will give us something more unexpected. Her song structure and lyric writing are getting very one dimensional, like the cliches are so expected and you can almost predict every melody that comes next. All so trivial. Not to mention the lack of build in the songs, sans Houdini's outro. No adlibs, same chorus vocal copied / pasted three times, meh bridges at best.. Idk not feeling too great at this point. But we'll see.

 

Nothing is bad btw; (mostly) all just very solid, nothing too noteworthy. 

I'm loving these three tracks but ngl I have to agree with what you said. It's very one note and derivative of the formula she struck magic with in Future Nostalgia just with a slightly different flavor of dance pop this go around. 

I actually like this one more than TS. It doesn't quite touch the bop that is Houdini, but it definitely has a good groove to it.

 

I don't see this making any noise whatsoever and the boring music video (yet again) kind of guarantees that but I'm always happy to be proven wrong cuz Dua deserves success. She's one of the most consistent pop girls in terms of quality

LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! She simply can't do any wrong, in my eyes. 

 

So far she's 3/3 for me but if I had to rank them as of rn:

 

Houdini > Illusion > Training Season 

 

I really hope this can become a mega-smash hit for her in the US!! It has summer hit written all over it

This is great!!! Perfect track for spring and summer, very catchy. The production is stellar too. Although, Houdini was the right lead and the best song released from Dua this era so far.

 

I really hope this becomes a bigger hit than Training Season at least. It deserves to.

How did she shoot a video like this and allow the Houdini video to come out like that for the lead followed by the TS video? This level of video should have led the album like what?

I also think a lot of the negativity about this era sounding too similar to FN will fade over time. I honestly think it's just a bad rollout + not enough payola from her label that's prevented a massive hit from emerging (and therefore making it easier for people to turn on her). Hopefully this is the one.

The masterpiece of a bridge into the final chorus fakeout that leads into a second final chorus is EARGASMIC. Producer of the year secured I fear. You think I'm gonna fall for an illllUUUUuuuuuUUUUUooooOOOOH whatcha doin?! 

meh. houdini still remains superior and one of her best. she needs to experiment more with her sound, houdini was a step in the right direction but she stalled there

So far the singles habe been 10/10, with this being a 11/10.
