FLO - 'Therapy at the Club'
By the way, people in here were expecting just a part two of their debut. The girls have got to branch out and make their music more accessible to an American audience, and I completely understand the artistic choice. The fact that people are dragging it because of that is wild! If anything, these girls have literally said in their interviews that they don't even consider themselves a mainly R&B girl group. Their most popular songs are pop leaning, and the only reason people think that they're R&B is because of the color of their skin. I feel like a lot of y'all are telling on yourselves here.

I feel like the storytelling budgets and even them having more control and showing more of their personality separates them from being compared to nostalgic girl groups of the past. Although I'm obsessed with their debut, don't get me wrong, feel like everybody was comparing it to essentially like a Destiny's Child tribute. Once again, this was a smart choice on their end.

I'm shocked that people are underwhelmed by this, although their debut is fantastic! I completely understand how and why they decided to go this route and branch out of it at the end of the day. I'm sure they can always sprinkle in their R&B vibes, but they very much made a very good, strategic choice by storytelling this time around, like a start-to-finish story about an experience at the club. They expanded their sonic world. I feel like a sophomore album is tricky because if they just doubled down with more of the same, they would also be kind of bashed for not branching out and not expanding. A thousand percent, they want to be the best girl group in the world! They literally said it. They said that AAA was a little bit more of a highlight reel. It wasn't touching on a lot of vulnerabilities, and this is a story start to finish. You can tell they really obviously upped the budget, the promo, everything. I genuinely think that it was such a smart choice because now their sound is a lot more accessible but still staying true to their R&B girl group vibes, especially with the harmonies. They've also put a lot more UK, hilarious British personality into a lot of the songs. I think this is, no notes to be honest. Pose is definitely ridiculous, but again, it's just not that serious. If they're telling a story about being at the club, that's the version of them being definitely a little faded and just vibing. I'm into it. I think if you really lean into the concept and understand why they did what they did, this is a vibe.

Ariana Grande - 'petal'
I think if she's on tour, she probably doesn't have any press lined up to promote this album. I think that's what I mean.....the reputation vibes are that she is going to let this stuff speak for itself I feel like a lot of this is very much a response of, girl youknow what, I really can't win. Everybody wants the old me. Everybody thinks I'm this person, so I'm gonna give you bits and pieces of all of that and have you all chew on it and here ya go Definitely not an easy listen, but it is a very interesting artistic choice. I definitely miss the bops and I definitely miss the belting, but it's almost like she intentionally held back to almost piss off the listeners and almost filter out the fans that expect one version of her. I feel like even the title is up for debate as it's like am I this fragile little thing growing or am I also in on it? I kind of *** with the messaging but as a lover of straight down the line pop I get it in terms of this is unexpected

Ariana Grande - 'petal'
Okay, besties, I definitely don't want the Swifties coming for me here because I love all pop music and I absolutely love Taylor. What I will say is that I think that this is Ariana's maybe version of reputation. I'm sure she wasn't going in saying she wanted to recreate that, but I just mean in terms of pop stars unfiltered, kind of leaning into the villain vibes. I feel like that is literally what she's doing, and in doing that, sonically, she also kind of took little bits and pieces of what she's known for but reimagined it into her today. I feel like all of her other albums, trust me as a gay myself, are love, all of the more mindless bops where you don't have to think about the lyrics. I feel like there's actually a lot more to unpack here than people think. I feel like even in the more hyper-sexually charged versions, I think she quite literally played into that version of her that was being depicted. I feel like a lot of these songs' lyrics, even sonic choices to be a little off the cuff, are very much up to the listener to interpret, and I genuinely feel like a lot of Ariana albums aren't necessarily like that. I feel like it's pretty straight cut, and I feel like this is more up to you to interpret, right, because it's kind of her version of "I don't owe you guys anything." I'm just gonna play into it, and you guys have fun and chew on this in whatever way you want. I genuinely feel like, especially with the first single, she was obviously sick of everybody, which is so funny, myself included. I feel like she quite literally went ahead and made this kind of meta album where it's talking about the perils of being a pop star. It's kind of like a wink-wink and almost specifically made it kind of jarring and weird because of that.

Tyla - 'A*POP'
Saying this as someone who genuinely likes her but isn't a super fan or anything. I think that's what it is … the marketing and what was promised didn't match the final product and genuinely I don't think her personality sells it. I like that she tried to do diff styles of popular music but she didn't sell either super well. Kiss is a bop, I like hot tubs for an evening or pool vibe but some of these don't feel fully fleshed out. I wish she leaned fulllyyyy into pop but I get the whole not wanting to alienate her audience too. It's giving mixed bag

ADÉLA - 'PRIMA'
Yeah she said in the Jake Shane Therapuss episode in the spring that The Provocateur was a lot more messaging and leaning into the persona she was on Pop Star Academy but there's more to her and this album is more girly and appealing to a wider audience than people who just saw her as the girl who didn't make KATSEYE. So .. it's definitely an intentional palette cleanser but slightly keeping the edges lol. I'm sure to get a debut out this early there was a bit of label compromise but I do think it's smart business wise to go the slightly more marketable pop star girl.

Kim Petras - 'Detour'
I'm hoping the deluxe isn't just the pretour songs lol but wasn't that the plan and wouldn't she not be so secretive about it bc we technically have them?
