It all depends on her drive. Katy's downfall is her lack of motivation. She viewed her success as her self worth so the moment she wasn't on top of the world she completely gave up. She stopped the over the top music videos, stopped the promo, stopped caring in general. She purposely caricatured herself as "camp queen" so being a "flop" wouldn't bother her. 

 

If she had the drive Taylor had after "underperforming" with Reputation and Lover eras, she'd still be successful. Reputation and Lover didn't score Taylor any huge WW hits (outside of LWYMMD driven by hype). But instead of just throwing a white flag Taylor went back to the drawing board and realized the drastic shifts from her image/sound didn't work for her and went back to image and sound more accessible to the public and gave much less generic radio fodder. It re-strengthened her brand after weakening it significantly with weak singles from Reputation and Lover. Then the re-recording good promo and Midnights took her back to previous highs. 

 

If Katy didn't give up and instead went back to the drawing board to rethink how she approached her career she'd probably be where Selena is. Pulling off at least a yearly WW hit. 

 

Dua... I don't think really cares about music that much. It seems more like a hobby that keeps her at A-list status. At a certain point I do see her pulling a Katy and not really putting in effort once the charts stop coming.

You made some points but also some lies. Katy's failure is a mix of waiting 4 years for another album, changing her image to the infamous Karen cut, losing her sex appeal, going political and openly Anti Trump, promoting her music as political and woke, having too much power in her choices such as last two Prism singles etc. 

 

She had too much personality and allowed the public to see her meltdowns with Witness Live Stream instead of hiding it and pretending everything is fine. She thought Witness would be an important album about herself as a person and not just an image of what Katy Perry is. She thought the fans would have her back but she was wrong. She was still going all out with crazy videos for Witness, promoting her ass off everywhere with CTTR, BA and Swish Swish, having a world wide tour and hosting VMAs. Lazy is the LAST you can say about her. But she did notice that when she tried to switch things up the GP and fans were not there for her so she just went with what people wanted from her which is why we have basic Smile bops and being ok with being the "fun camp" icon. 

 

I don't see Dua Lipa having enough power in her own career or enough personality to allow such a massive change that Katy did to herself with the image, going ultra political and speaking her mind about everything. Katy was sure she will be the popular ***** with next diamond singles so she was confident. Katy could be cocky and trusted her fanbase and her ideas too much. Dua seems too safe to ever going this direction. She's more of a Kylie Minogue person who is just always there being unproblematic. 

 

Katy might not have the drive of Taylor but it's okay. She went through a lot in the eyes of GP and she found happiness in her private life. She already achieved the top of the world. If she feels creative to release an album she will. And Katy at her worst success wise is still more popular than 99% of world's singers and artists.

Composure and professionalism isn’t boring to me. She is well read, cooks, and has a wide range of interests. Her podcast shows that she is interested in other people and asks pertinent questions. That is what makes her unique as a pop star, it doesn’t always revolve around them. She isn’t a laugh riot, but so what? 
 

Whatever you think of her music, I am not sure what is boring. If I could chat with a current pop star over coffee or wine, it’d be Dua.

Dua serves fully fleshed pop eras, well crafted music, fantastic promotion, and it doesn't hurt that she's gorgeous.  What we all learned to crave from the pop girls of the 90s, 00s, and 10s growing up is only truly being served by Dua these days.

Thats what truly gets me is that all these essays are being written about Dance the Night and how Dua cant serve anything else but disco when it was Greta Gerwig herself that told Dua the movie was inspired by disco. We also know 100 % that the next album will be a completely different sound yet people pretend DTN is an indication of DL3 which it really is not 

I don't really care about her but every once in a while she gives a bop like Love Again or Break My Heart, so I still listen to her releases 

Dua still has the BEST era of the decade so far so thats an automatic no! Even during her "break" she's pretty fun to follow

In terms of personality? Yes, honestly. She's just not that unique or interesting at all when giving interviews or interacting with people more generally. I wouldn't be able to describe to you almost anything about her personality despite her being a public figure for years now
