The nerve when you have KATY PERRY written on your sig

It's not about boxing her into certain genres, it's the fact that if you shuffled her discography you would have a hilariously random experience.   Ready for It..., to the 1, to Shake It Off

  • Katy, Adele and Britney still smashing the poll.

Country pop, pop and indie pop with little influences from anything else isn't exactly being versatile no matter how many awards you bring up out of context. She's smart and often stays in her lane making it as wide as she can, and there's nothing wrong with that.

True! You could totally play any random song from Fearless, 1989, and Folklore and not know what album they came from :sadviolin:

Gospel, rock, pop, trap/hip-hop, country

vs.

country, pop, folk…maybe rock?

really? You just WANT to be delusional just because Katy has a more poppy image than Taylor :deadbanana:

And if one trap-pop song counts for Katy, then boy do I have something to tell you about Taylor's versatility for only one song :toofunny3:

Adele, easily. What has she done that she hasn’t done before? She has her schtick and sticks to it.

Anyone who voted for Madonna is either ignorant or straight up hating. That woman has spent 40 years, longer than most of us have been alive, doing different **** each era. Versatile is her middle name.

I mean, you could pretty much call the vast majority of everything released by each artist in the OP "pop", it's a blanket term.

Songs like these are vastly different

Carolina could easily be a Civil Wars song, and there's no way the Civil Wars would release something like Ready For It.

For me, versatility is albums having completely different sounds than other albums in the same artist's discography. I know people here like to say ""Ariana did reggae!!!" because of Side to Side's halftime percussion, but one individual track on one individual album that sounds pretty much the same as the previous album doesn't make the artist versatile in my eyes.

Meanwhile, Taylor's career for me is divided into 3 stages. The country-pop era, the POP star era of 1989, reputation, and Lover, all 3 of which sound pretty different from each other imo, and the folkmore era. I think she's always gonna have those country roots, but I think it's great she tries to push that to its limit and then some by weaving through pop, rock, and folk genres. I'm not gonna say she's got "False God as a jazz song!!" or "Don't Blame Me as electro-gospel!!!" when I can just say that folklore sounds nothing like reputation which sounds nothing like 1989 which sounds nothing like Fearless.

And unless she somehow makes like an R&B album she will probably never really shed the idea that her country-pop roots are tied to every album :gaycatina1:

Exactly.  There's no way a song like Our Song would be on reputation, no way a song like Look What You Made Me Do would be on any of her other albums, no way that a song like closure would be on Fearless, I could go on.

Trying to act like they are similar sonically just because you can name them all "pop" is not changing anything :toofunny2:

Is this the first time adele and Katy have been neck and neck in a decade :jonnycat:

Lol some fan bases are so delusional

Most of the pop girls are not all that versatile. They stick with what they know and make minor deviations here and there, experiment a bit with certain genres but let’s be real ?. It’s so hilarious to here stuff like “Taylor did an alternative album!”…like…

That being said, Adele is the least, without a doubt.

I am screaming.

In what world, is Katy one of the least versatile artists, especially when Adele, Taylor and Ariana exist. This girl went from:

Gospel

to Alanis inspired rock

Then to pop-punk, trap, electronic music, house , RnB. This isn't even considered the sub genres she has done.

Adele is the least, Ariana is still early in her career and sticks to RnB genres and trap mainly however she is far more adventurous than Adele and Taylor is here just because. Then it would be Katy with Miley and then Beyonce and Gaga tied.

Rihanna and the rest are by far the most versatile of the bunch.

Now imagine if Miley and Madonna had Beyonces vocal range and capabilities. Beyoncé could also easily venture out too like Miley and Madonna, possibly even more. Imagine Beyoncé doing Gospel, more rock and so on. Excited to hear her do disco/house/dance songs.
