Billie Eilish: What went wrong?

Featured Replies

After having one of the biggest debut eras of all time, Miss Eilish went on to release the follow-up "Happier than Ever". The album saw poor sales and housed several flop singles like Lost Cause or My Furniture.

How did she decline in such a short period of time? What caused her downfall?

Discuss and keep it cute.

Happier Than Ever is her Speak Now, she can easily have a long career with the right decisions

- My Future and Your Power being awful single choices that killed her buzz from WWAFAWDWG

- That photo shoot she did; completely ditching the style and image that made her popular and relatable in the first place

- Relying on a woke Gen Z fan base that gets off on finding any and every minor excuse to cancel celebrities (that guy she dated, that one time she used an Asian accent, the lamest accusations of Queerbaiting ever)

The album is actually holding up well despite the pretty fragmented rollout. She definitely should have released different singles (and not so many) ahead of the release

It's still in the Top 40 after nearly a year later which is better than majority of MPG sophomore albums in the past despite having only one active hit during its chart run. Biggest female tour of the year and the only album besides Sour and Red TV to sell over 500k pure copies. Seems like the question should be "what went right?" after this site swore it was the biggest decline ever and were proven wrong (as always) :rip:

it was ha Under My Skin

let us wait to be slayed by Billie's TBDT

She’s on a smash global tour right now, she’s doing more than fine :rip:

I’ve seen this user defend the Havana singer, so I guess we shouldn’t be surprised :rip:

Nothing? She's the best-selling and highest tour-grossing artist of her generation :rip:

She's doing great and released one of the best albums of this decade so far.

Nothing. The album has done good numbers, has had good longevity, got her a hit single, garnered critical acclaim, and she's currently on a sold-out arena world tour (the biggest female tour of the year) and headlining the biggest festivals in the world.

You tried though :rip:

She’s the biggest Gen Z music act globally, nothing “went wrong”.

The TikTok-fueled “backlash” in 2021 was just bracefaced emo 14 year olds who felt her doing a sexual photoshoot and dancing around with girl friends in the Lost Cause video was a betrayal. It had no actual effect on her career, the album still did well but just didn’t have a pop radio friendly single. In ATRL’s myopic 2011’d mindset, if an album doesn’t have a single that immediately goes #1 and gets spammed on pop radio then it is automatically deemed a flop.

The album is great and is having longevity. The reason why it's doesn't seem as big is because they messed up the rollout by releasing the worst songs as singles and messy monotonous music videos directed by Billie who is somewhat limited visually-speaking.

The album is doing just fine.  She can easily have a great career moving forward.  She just needs to have some more upbeat songs in the future.

it did better than positions which is considered a success

the album has 3 top 10 singles (one being #2) while wwafawdwg only has 1 that was a shot lived #1, so i wouldnt say she went wrong anywhere, it has acclaims, the tour is doing AMAZING, i wouldnt say anything went wrong

i think she changed her brand too drastically from what people were used to before, like it wasn't exactly a downfall but it could have had better numbers for sure :gaylorcat2:

the backlash of this thread:rip: you tried :ahh:

My oh my. What an interesting twist.

For me it was the long break between WWAFA and Happier than Ever and the snoozer My Future. She became huge during the pandemic when we were all at home and had time to keep up with her and stream her music but then she took too long to release another record and people moved on as life kept going, unfortunately. I fear the same thing will happen with Olivia if she doesn't hurry up with her album.

She is just doing fine tho. Happier Than Ever is still serving longevity on the charts after nearly a year:

UK: #20 (+6)

Ireland: #6 (+16)

Canada: #45 (-6)

US: #42 (-5)

Germany: #65 (-5)

Australia: #34 (-7)

France: #125 (-14)
