For her entire career, I've always considered "Bad Romance" as the signature Gaga single.

from the music video, performances, lyrics, melody… it's quintessential Gaga at her finest. There was no other song that captured her style and the Gaga brand than it.

Until now! I truly feel Abracadabra rivals bad romance as the quintessential, signature Gaga single.

the video, lyrics, performances, the way it frames the entire mayhem ball (its quite literally the reacurring theme song of the tour), and it almost represents the entire mayhem era in way. The way you could reference the now iconic red dress, the music video looks, the lady in red… all tied to abracadabra. Conceptually it's just so interesting and has panned out so well.

I think for me personally it has already surpassed bad romance as "the Gaga song" as I like it more personally, it probably won't for the general public just because of how big bad romance was, but definitely think it's the defining "GAGA" song of the second half of her career, basically Bad Romance 2.0 in terms of defining her as an artist.

Yeah I second this. Abracadabra was the only release of hers after that I felt (and still feel) rivalls Bad Romance.

Stunning. You can't convince me that TargaryenGa is NOT her best THEY/THEM aesthetic

The title of the show in the corner is very fitting to Gaga's look in that video. :jonny6:

Let's wait and see how Abra is perceived in 10 years but right now it's definitely having a lot of impact. Poker Face outtalented Fad Romance tho

I don't think songs today can leave the same lasting impact as Bad Romance or Poker Face. Abra is an incredible track, but it just doesn't reach that level of cultural dominance. :katie: Sadly "monoculture" is gone and we no longer experience those shared cultural moments together like we once did.

BR was truly something else... every commercial on TV seemed to use it as a jingle, it was everywhere, absolutely unavoidable. Everyone knew the lyrics, the MV, the choreography. BR is a defining song for at least an entire generation, "Rah rah rah" everyone still knows it. :cries:

Shallow is the closest thing we got to that

I mostly agree, but I'd argue that A) Die With a Smile kind of meets that benchmark too, and B) Abracadabra, along with Coachella/Brazil/Mayhem Ball, was as close as capturing the zeitgeist in the 2020s we're going to get when it comes to Gaga's dance records.

Weird they were trying to avoid during Gaga's time and releasing a week before Taylor lmao + during 2027 Grammys

I know right :deadbanana2: The backfire

But for once it didn't feel like we were directly competing with anyone, so I ain't complaining. Now we get to sit back and watch the bloodbath :eli:

The fact that they probably did not release another single for summer so that TDD could get as much hype as possible. And here we are now.

The Dead Dance is doing her job. It lifted Mayhem up the charts. Compare Mayhem's spot before and after TDD, CSTH and KFL was released

It's been a few days since I've streamed TDD.

NGL I've been listening to news podcasts more lately just because the USA is imploding and I can't look away from the trainwreck
