Yeah, I agree with this. Crazy in Love, Baby Boy and Naughty Girl are obvious smashes, and she was collaborating with Jay Z and Sean Paul, two of the biggest hit makers Alive at the time :rip:

Renaissance appears to be a sample heavy record, however I’m sure they’re gonna completely rework the tracks to provide a new fresh experience and I’m so excited:jonny5: it will also shed light and give some extra streams for the original samples and then we’ll have more people praising Bey for educating the new gen:clap3:

The trance producers on the album really have me psyched. She's about to give us EVERYTHING

Yeah, not getting early 90's really :rip:

Emotional whiplash because I was fully prepared to be mad at her until 07/29 but the tracklist and all that album art got me ****ed up

Her most interesting tracklist by far. Hope the track I claimed (Cuff HIT) doesn’t suck

I’ve noticed some people abandoning the tracks they pre-claimed but we will check the receipts

Can't wait to see how I'm That Girl compares to her other openers. PYCM set the bar high I fear

Watching Black is King in preparation for Renaissancé and I really regret saying its inferior to Lemonade/ST and insulting to their legacy

I can't believe some critics/haters said the narrative elements were confusing when its CLEAR AS DAY the story beats of TLK :skull: which we should all know by now. But the way she took the lion king's story and made it about pride in your heritage and also included personal elements (her miscarriage, marriage, children etc) is just genius and literally no one else could do it :skull: and for a side project at that. And to top it off, The Gift is aging beautifully, although it was flawless from first listen as well

They aren’t releasing anything to any store before the album is out. Bey hasn’t forgotten what happened with 4.

I meant put on her website for pre-orders. Wrong word used.

Jay-Z wasn't a hit maker at the time. His only #1 was as a feature and Bey gave him his first top 5 as a lead with Bonnie & Clyde.

And without the video, I don't think Baby Boy felt like a smash.

It's also possible that they were talking about the fact that there were too many slow RnB songs (Speechless, The Closer, Signs, Yes, Daddy, Me Myself and I, Naughty Girl etc).

And by the time the album was finalized Sean Paul probably hadn't released Get Busy yet or it hadn't peaked (his only #1 before Baby Boy) so he was an artist with only one top 10 song.

Huh? The horse is a reference to Studio 54. The alternative covers of just her face (including the BMS single cover), are late 80s, early-90s influenced.

It’s very much late 80s, early 90s YSL glamour. Bruno did a whole late 80s, early 90s album and you still don’t see it? Ya’ll don’t know ya’ll fashions :coffee:FYPiNvWUYAAgk8k.jpg:large

Jay Z was coming off like 4-5 consecutive albums that debuted with HUGE numbers :rip: he wasn’t some nobody who was massively struggling, he was an A-lister. I’m just saying nobody with ears (especially people who are paid to know what they’re doing in the music business) could listen to Those 3 songs (especially CIL) and honestly say: “yeah, a giant flop!”

Chances are it was a made up narrative to paint some underdog narrative, it’s okay, most artists have done it

It is a narrative. They shut down her first iteration of DIL recorded in early 2002 when WOI was the lead and sent her back to the studio to work with Rich Harrison, Scott Storch, and Missy after Dilemma went # 1

Drakeisha’s use of the sample is like dry, unseasoned chicken. And I haven’t heard Tay’s version. For the label to be so blown away by Bey’s use, it must be something special. I have a feeling I’m That Girl will be the 2nd single though.

I assume Taylor’s is from Look What You Made Me Do

I don't think so. Cause recently the guy who helped spin Crazy In Love On the radio said that the label didn't know what to do with her after Work it Out and they did not think CIL was a hit. It was too brash compared to why was on the radio at the time. They wanted her to record and work for R. Kelly and she and Matthew said hell no. He also stated that Nas threatened to leave Columbia when he found out Jay was going to be featured on Beys debut.

There was alot of drama with her debut. Alot of doubts. She even stated she had to get lawyers involved cause she wasn't re recording another album. The stories have been consistent. And we still don't know it all. I hope she does a memoir.

Yeah he was a big artist, that's indéniable, just not on the Hot 100. I was just pointing it out because you said "hit maker". I assumed you meant Hot 100.

Yes, maybe but labels can be wrong.

And frankly CIL did sound weird to me then. Now it's iconic and that beginning is instantly recognizable but it's a bit aggressive, it's not exactly smooth or easy or blends in like RnB or pop songs of the time.

But it's also a possibility she was lied to but I think she is the type of person to sit at the table when her album is being discussed. Then she could also be the one lying...
