Beyoncé

This is part 1 of the Beyoncé discussion.

I don't get why jay collabs and tours are being brought up in defence of a dc reunion, most hive didn't want that either! Eil streams and otrii's boxscores show that. Bey is not washed and there is still so much she can do and achieve as a solo artist. Doing a dc reunion would firmly place her as a legacy act and she is only 43. And I do agree that doing a dc tour/album would confine her.

If Beyoncé doesn't shoot immersive content for Apple I'm going to be annoyed with her. This is the "technology" angle that could be done for the entire trilogy or at the least the Cowboy Carter tour. I've been very impressed with the content I've seen far, and I know a visionary like Beyoncé would take it to the EXTREME next level. It would easily be worth a $300+ price tag (even though they've all been free thus far). It truly feels like you're in the feet away from the artist, it would be like a meet n greet pass that never expires :WAP:

"Wow, I didn't go in with any expectations and I'm very impressed.

A fantastic blend of the surreal, special effects, and normal immersive cinematography over a song that works perfectly with those things."

"Yeah that was one of the coolest video experiences I've had in my life and I'm just a casual fan. I've never seen them live but it feels like I kind of did now. I'd pay concert ticket prices for full length concerts like this"

"Count me in - this was INCREDIBLE!! Just what others have said, surreal experience! Can't believe Apple has this in their immersive experience. Would have paid for this. FANTASTIC camera work. Really felt like I was there - on stage, and up front in the crowd. No matter what you may thing about Metallica, NOTHING ELSE MATTERS - watch this one."

then don't go if it ever happens sis, but people saying it's "limiting her art!" is wild, not everything needs to be a serious art project.. this would just be FUN for fans

we have two major solo tours back to back, we can afford to have a short run of DC dates

Well I probably won't go just like I didn't go to OTR II but that wasn't the discussion that was taking place. Someone asked if we wanted a DC album and tour, some said they did unchallenged and some of us said we didn't, which you proceed to call un-fun.

Some of us here are stans of Beyoncé only, that's OK. Some of you want projects with Jay, projects with Solange, DC reunion and in a couple years, it will be Blue. This is not a group project, she is a solo artist.

Also you saying "we had two back to back solo tours" like that's something out of the ordinary. Well duh, that's what we are here for. I want 10-20 back to back solo tours. No one told Prince's fans, MJ's fans or Tina's fans, "oh 2 solo tours back to back?,don't be greedy".

But still sis, right back at you lol. If two solo tours back to back is a lot, you can sit the next ones out and wait for the DC reunion tour.

It's important for Bey to routinely rest her solo brand

No, it is not.

This is a bold lie.

After she did an album with Jay and African artists, she struggled to regain her pre-Lemonade footing, and she still is.

A solo album following Lemonade and Coachella would have demolished and she sacrificed it for a flop project with her husband.

After she did Destiny's Fullfilled, she immediately experienced a slump and extreme fatigue ad hatred from the public when she came back with B'Day and had to work extremely hard to regain her solo footing which imo is one of the reason IASF is so digestible. B'Day being released after DIL would have done much better.

If she wants to rest her brand, she can take a well deserved break. Those side projects give Beyoncé's fatigue without Beyoncé's solo legacy itself profiting at all. They are always in detriment of her solo brand.

I'm not against those projects at all tbh but she is always working and it is not always for her.

I will never understand DC3 avengers. Go listen to their old albums and watch old concerts if you wanna feel nostalgia so bad.

no shade :suburban:

I understand DCs harmonies are godly, but as others have pointed out:

  • their reunion would serve PEAK legacy act
  • it'll have 0 coolness and just nostalgia -> it would give 3 aunties singing together
  • Bey cannot bask in her creativity, let's be real. Michelle simply cannot keep up with Bey and even Kelly doesn't have Bey's stamina
  • more of DC means less of solo-Bey

I always appreciate them getting together for a cute gig, but ain't nobody need Bey to literally waste her precious years now for a DC reunion. She can do that when she's 55 for all I care, not now. We gotta make the most of Beyonce, the ultimate performer.

By specific demographics.

a 23 year old white girl will reach a wider market than a 50 year old black man but he might do more on tour and pure sales because his audience isn't sitting on the internet all day

This is what I've been thinking and it's the main reason I'm extremely against doing a dc reunion or any side projects right now: they do nothing for her solo brand and it usually results in hate campaigns. I'm a cynic so I think any hypothetical dc reunion would result in a hate campaign of people complaining that she is a (rightfully) a lead singer.

25 years later people harbour deep emotions over the dc breakup and the girls roles in the group. Also there would be large group of people pretending to care that Letoya and Latavia aren't part of it and exaggerating their importance of the first edition of dc :oh:

I saw an interview of Bey in 2001 explaining that L&L are only on like 6 or 7 songs on TWOTW. Idk about y'all but I was sooo surprised to hear this confirmed when listening to acapellas on Youtube and see people confirm in the comments that it was Bey and Kelly singing stacked vocals (Temptation, I thought the soprano harmony was Letoya).

Even on lose my breath, it is only Beyonce on the background vocals. She would be doing most of the work and get hate for it.

I can't lie, I still think about what could've been if Beyonce had a solo album/era right after Coachella it was such a waste to do OTRII and EIL and you could see that they were thrown together very quickly.  Any joint project between them should've been earlier when Jay was in his prime but that still would've resulted in hate.

Sounds interesting.

I wonder when she'll eventually go back to making videos, maybe act 3?

I am a bit excited and intrigued to see what her next video for a song would be like. Somehow her waiting so long to release one must put pressure on her.

I mean she's never stopped making videos, she just isn't releasing them yet.

You guys put too much focus on what the haters think.

If it wasn't for those 'side' projects that everyone seems to diminish the importance of, we wouldn't get albums like Rennie.

Having the freedom to experiment and put her **** out there is what has given her the growth we see. Success is not a straight upwards line.

Yeah it's not all about streams and personal brand. I'm iffy about the Jay project but The Gift let her flex different creative muscles and executive produce a great project that was an homage to African culture. I would not trade it for anything.

US Chart peaks of Beyoncé's official/promoted singles:

Renaissance (2022)

Break My Soul (#1)

Cuff It (#6)

AHAP Remix Feat. Kendrick Lamar (#38)

~

Cowboy Carter (2024)

Texas Hold 'Em (#1)

II Most Wanted w/ Miley Cyrus (#6)

16 Carriages (#38)

After the ST hiatus she came back with Formation and THAT is arguably her best video of all time.

I think she has the ability to revolutionize the MV genre

i'm sorry but this is stupid af and those vision headsets already bombed to hell. no sane person pays real live concert ticket prices for some VR ****, just keep the 300€ and go to an actual concert :rip:

I completely agree, her experiencing is one of her greatest strengths and I am one of the most vocal supporters of The Gift. And I certainly place it above some of her albums that's why I addressed just the part of her needing to rest her solo brand to avoid fatigue.

The Gift is also very very close to my heart for other reasons.

On another note, I also feel like Beyoncé experiences extremely well on her own albums, I think she's always open to trying new things, she is just an avid music fan that's why she produced works like Lemonade, ST, 4 even before.

I really want her to eventually give us a Blues record down the line something pushing a bit more the Cadillac Records sound, she would excel at it imo and a score for a movie with someone like Hans Zimmer has been an old dream of mine. I thought it would finally happen with The Lion King but maybe he's also a little bit old now.

I respectfully disagree.

The lull post-Lemonade was literally due to Tidal and her having to catch up to acclimate to the streaming world that she inadvertently let her peers zoom by her in.

As for her side ventures, she also didn't put the necessary gas behind them to even give them the chance to help her commercially. Lack of videos, a year-late visual project, etc.

We reflect daily on how much she doesn't sufficiently play the game properly. Had she given The Gift/BIK all of the "things" (bigger features, a visual album on release etc), the returns would have looked way different. The Jay thing, admittedly, no one wanted that at the time, so it kinda always felt destined to underperform.

Overall, I don't think side ventures, by their mere existence, have messed up her buzz or trajectory in any way. She simply doesn't work them properly.

More than anything, it's vital to remember that Bey's "bag" is innovation and constantly pushing the envelope. She is not a Taylor Swift, who can and will put out the same vanilla album almost every year and her stans will lap it up like it's her debut.

Bey has the tricky predicament of being SO good on all fronts that I actually don't think she's revered enough. Her greatness is now the base expectation. As such, IMO sometimes you've got to pause the "regularly scheduled programming" to make people appreciate it the more when it returns. If Bey just kept churning out solo albums without anything else, I can assure you, she'd eventually be in the -100k first-week territory. Because, her output (no matter how diverse or amazing) would become "just another new Beyonce album".

IMO, I've stanned enough megastars to clock that none of this is a pure meritocracy based solely on a strong fanbase and good music. Yes, that's important. But it's moreso about strategy and marketing. What works for a Taylor or Adele doesn't automatically work for a Bey. What our girl lacks in their automated sales and religious-like Becky standom, she more than makes up for with the amount of additional cards she has in her arsenal. DC, Jay, a star sibling in Solange, etc.

So, I'll always vote for her having a diverse career trajectory where she taps into all of her available "angles" (be that side projects, reunion tours, etc) than just dropping solo albums back to back. IMO, it's way more interesting.

BTW...

I've always seen a DC something as a lil limited engagement thing. Not an "era".

A summer run of stadium shows. 10-20 dates globally. Or a Vegas run.

It's an easy bag. Allows Bey to be visible and active between eras, plus we are still in a window where they all look, move, and sound great. I don't get why anyone would want to wait until that ISN"T the case for them to reunite lol.

It's an absolute no for me. I'd rather have OTRIII than a DC reunion tour. All the girls are in such different stages of their lives. Michelle is killing it in Broadway, Kelly is focusing on acting, Beyoncé's still at her artistic peak in terms of album-making.
