If Beyoncé doesn't shoot immersive content for Apple I'm going to be annoyed with her. This is the "technology" angle that could be done for the entire trilogy or at the least the Cowboy Carter tour. I've been very impressed with the content I've seen far, and I know a visionary like Beyoncé would take it to the EXTREME next level. It would easily be worth a $300+ price tag (even though they've all been free thus far). It truly feels like you're in the feet away from the artist, it would be like a meet n greet pass that never expires :WAP:

if you're unfamiliar:

"Starting this week, Apple is releasing all-new series and films captured in Apple Immersive Video that will debut exclusively on Apple Vision Pro. Apple Immersive Video is a remarkable storytelling format that leverages 3D video recorded in 8K with a 180-degree field of view and Spatial Audio to transport viewers to the center of the action.

user reactions

"Wow, I didn't go in with any expectations and I'm very impressed.

A fantastic blend of the surreal, special effects, and normal immersive cinematography over a song that works perfectly with those things."

"Yeah that was one of the coolest video experiences I've had in my life and I'm just a casual fan. I've never seen them live but it feels like I kind of did now. I'd pay concert ticket prices for full length concerts like this"

"Count me in - this was INCREDIBLE!! Just what others have said, surreal experience! Can't believe Apple has this in their immersive experience. Would have paid for this. FANTASTIC camera work. Really felt like I was there - on stage, and up front in the crowd. No matter what you may thing about Metallica, NOTHING ELSE MATTERS - watch this one."

This is about what I've been thinking she was working on, some sort of immersive experience - seemed like there was A LOT of tech talk in the beginning of the trilogy era

It's an absolute no for me. I'd rather have OTRIII than a DC reunion tour. All the girls are in such different stages of their lives. Michelle is killing it in Broadway, Kelly is focusing on acting, Beyoncé's still at her artistic peak in terms of album-making.

Most ppl think Jay Z is the antichrist and you'd rather see him on tour with Bey than DC3, fr?

Damn I didn't know y'all hated DC like this. It's kind of heartbreaking tbh :katie:

What is the most heartbreaking is you caring about how Jay-Z is perceived by some. :suburban:

P.S.: Not wanting a DC3 reunion tour ≠ hating DC3.

Yeah but saying you'd want OTR3 instead of DC3 reunion kind of does :cm:

And I care about Beyoncé's safety on tour. The last thing I'd want to happen to for Beyoncé to stop touring altogether bc some unhinged conspiracy theorists put her and her family's (and fan's) safety in jeopardy.

Beyoncé hasn't been safe for a long time. It only got worse from 2016 with Formation and Lemonade, explicit calling out police violence through her art. It's not gotten better anyways. She'll always be a target for racist, extreme-right lunatics, regardless of whom she's accompanied by.

As such, IMO sometimes you've got to pause the "regularly scheduled programming" to make people appreciate it the more when it returns. If Bey just kept churning out solo albums without anything else, I can assure you, she'd eventually be in the -100k first-week territory. Because, her output (no matter how diverse or amazing) would become "just another new Beyonce album".

IMO, I've stanned enough megastars to clock that none of this is a pure meritocracy based solely on a strong fanbase and good music.

Oh I love such musical discussions. :duca:

I wonder why you feel so (-100k part)?

I also respectfully disagree so let me put my long comment in Spoiler so people can just pass it.

Spoiler

Why take those two artists as examples when you have Whitney, MJ, Prince, Janet, Madonna, Barbra, Aretha, Diana Ross, Mary J.?

Even if we only take artists who push innovations :

Janet only made exclusively solo albums until she hit a wall with the SB. Before that her 8th album debuted with 600k and even after the SB, her last album close to 50 y.o still opened with 100k+.

Same with Madonna. Exclusively solo outputs. Innovative

Aretha, who imo has the best mainstream female discography of all time, still pushed successful and innovative albums deep in her 40's. And she focused exclusively on solo output.

Prince for example, although he focused mostly on solo albums, did a bunch of side projects, some rushed albums to get out of his label contract, collaborative albums and tours where he put the spotlight on different collaborators. As a result, he entered the legacy portion of his career way before most legends from his generation despite being part of the big 3 along with MJ and Madge. Of course, he remained mostly musically sharp but that's because his genius is unmatched.

In some way, the only "resting solo brand" method I agree with is MJ's release strategy, which for me, even after all the years, remains the most effective way to maximize the missing effect. He would release and promote to the fullest then disappear for 3-4 years and do nothing, absolutely nothing so the fans would miss him. From the moment he went solo, he didn't put out anything other than solo albums.

I also find that little faith is shown in Beyoncé's musical mastery and lasting power. Side projects or not, she would grow and expand and innovate anyway, after all she did ST right after 4 and released Lemonade and the accompanying Cannes-and-Peabody-winning documentary after ST. Also Lemonade following ST felt like another album and CC following Ren felt just as different.

Either way, she would do what she feels like doing but I would simply prefer she gives us more solo outputs for a long time.

See but that's where I disagree. First of all with media literacy at an all time low, I don't think Beyoncé and especially Jay Z have ever received this level of unwarranted hate nor do I think the GP has ever wanted to see their downfall quite like they do now. It would make ZERO sense for them to put themselves in a situation where they are getting publicity that they don't need. Especially when DC3 is RIGHT THERE ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Like you wanting to see Holy Grail performed live for the 100th time as opposed to hearing Destiny's Child deep cuts in a stadium is kinda crazy :bam:

While we have different takes, I too appreciate qualitative discourse. So, merci :-)

A few things (also in Spoilers to spare the ppl another essay lol)

Spoiler

I agree with much of your observations about the names mentioned. Many of who are my faves.

I think the key distinction with Bey is the era is which she exists. She mirrors their level of greatness, but exists in a time when such greatness isn't as celebrated or revered as back then.

Bey is all at once hailed for being as amazing as she is during an era where music (as a product) and celebrity (as a concept) aren't as propped up as the time of yesteryear. Social media, which we all use and love, has largely dissolved the notion of the untouchable / almost superhero-like celeb. For more reasons than I have space to type.

So, in this era of diminished attention spans where Bey's artistic greatness kinda receives the "yeah, that's cool, but what else is going on" treatment, she does benefit from not being so singular/narrow in her output (aka solo releases only)

Back in the day, that would simply manifest as the lengthy breaks between albums ala MJ and Janet.

IMO, most acts of today don't have that luxury. They have to feed the zeitgeist and massage their own momentum in ways outside of the norm. Acts like Rih do this with her brand ish, but that isn't really Bey's bag (much as it's clear she wants it to be as she winds down). People want to consume her musically (be that by way of new material or performing). That is her biggest pull and probably always will be.

The whole "first solo album in 7 years" was a key part of the narrative push for Rennie and it...worked. Meanwhile, she never actually went away. She was hella active with side projects, side tours, etc, and yet she was all at once still able to benefit from the narrative that our older faves enjoyed when they totally vanished between projects. IMO, it's the perfect way of striking the balance between acclimating to modern times while drawing on the tried and true concept of "pausing the regularly scheduled programming" to refill the cup of buzz. Hence, why I am more thanok with DC reunion, collab albums with interest artists, and ventures such as The Gift.

I legit think she'd be in the -100k first week territory with her solo records way quicker than the norm if there continued to be an air of predictability around her moves and if her only "party trick" was a new sound/narrative per record. As mentioned, her releases would become "just another Beyonce album" that folk will either love or pass on. That type of predictability breeds familiarity, which I feel causes audience passivity and eventual disengagement.

IMO, keeping folk on their toes when it comes to what she'll do, giving them things to like, loathe, and anticipate between her main projects ultimately helps the grandiosity of her "main" solo album drops and signifies them the most premium offerings in her diverse arsenal and makes them more of an "event".

To me, the business of selling music at the type of level Bey and fellow huge acts do it, actually is not as much to do with the "music" as most would think.

I've been feeling similar, especially given the discourse around ticket sales.

I don't doubt that the tour will eventually be a huge seller/gross-leader for her, but the whole timing of it (a year after the album, with no real promotional driver) has me thinking/hoping she has a trick up her sleeve.

A CC film drop on Netflix would be perfect promo and would gift the tour itself renewed urgency/importance.

Thus far, it's been super impressive to see what she's been able to achieve on the merit of the albums alone (Rennie and CC), but there will need to be a "something" soon to put more gas in the tank.

I could see her being able to pull off another visual-less era if film doesn't drop for this tour, but Act III almost definitely will need to launch in alignment with the film tying the trilogy together.

I want to push back against this because 1) the discourse is misleading, 2) it won't "eventually" be a huge seller --> it already is with 95% sold out, and 3) she'd never drop visuals for the sake of promoting anything, it's an artistic pursuit.

My gut feeling was solely based on the art book shipping, some Nadia Lee Cohen interview excerpt, and the only car during Beyoncé Bowl with a skeleton in it having a license plate '420' --> April 20th (a reach achieved through my fantasy) . :suburban:

I actually found Destiny's Child after Beyonce :sabrina:

Not to harp on about DC much further, but I think this spotlights something I've long had a hunch about.

The sheer breadth of Bey's fanbase makes it clear why DC is a big deal to some of us and less of a care to others.

I discovered Bey "in" DC from their debut single. So, DC is intrinsically baked-into my love for Bey and the other girls. In many ways, it's an inseparable genesis of my love for everything Bey has gone on to become too.

By contrast, there are people who joined The Hive as "recent" as ST and Lemonade...at which point DC was so far removed from the Beyonce offering that it just presents as that nostalgic relic of yesteryear.

Whereas for me and others, I almost take them as an entirely separate act (a supergroup) that I stan just as much as Bey and whose material I actually feel (almost...almost!) rivals hers solo. Especially from a GP standpoint. But that's another day, another convo.

Pushing back on your pushback :suburban:....

I 100% know the tour is a success...already. But I equally know that, taking off my stan goggles, it's objectively less "buzzy" than the RWT, certain dates for sure need some TLC, and the chatter around the cost of tickets overall is considerably louder than ever before. Everything will shake out fine, but it's ok to call a spade a spade.

I'm OG Hive and will defend her to the max, but I will always generally push back on this "artistic pursuit" defense some of the Hive give her. She is an artist, who drops music, visuals, and tours, with a capitalist impetus (which is totally fine).

So, if ever she's in a corner where it's looking like there's a "need" to give something a push to enhance her ability to generate $$$, I firmly beleive that she's not "above" doing what's needed to facilitate that. Be that expediting her plans with the visuals (for example) or doing the promo that she's so "averse" to doing.

In short, it's only not happening at present because she still possesses sufficient clout to not "need" to. Whenever there is a "need", which is a day that will come (because "celebrity" and popularity will always have its ups, downs, ebbs, and flows), I don't doubt that she will do what she has to. Be that the day she needs to sell tickets, albums, or whatever.

If she dropped CC visuals before Renaissance the backlash would be immense.

The visuals, if and when they come out, will be for Beyoncé's core fanbase and people who watch pop culture. It's not something the GP has any awareness of or interest in. And I don't think it would generate hype for the album or for the tour. Especially if it is a grand ambitious project that spans multiple acts.

imagine waking up to a trailer like this a week after RENAISSANCE dropped, or even the week before the RWT kicked off :ducky:

must be diarrhea cause it's not the v-word

 Gwuf.gif

Speaking of visuals, sometimes I get so annoyed with Bey because...

I'm by no means threatened nor do I forsee it being as culturally resonant as whatever Bey is bringing. I also really like this for Miley. But just the idea that Bey's "peers" (for the lack of better word) are borrowing her baton and running with it...while we sit here visual-less...is a little grating.

There's all this safeguarding, postulating around the eventual visuals drop and, like others have said, from a GP/critics standpoint, it's not as if the collective mass (outside of the Hive) are likely to greet it with the regality that she may be expecting.

It's like the whole tour movie ish. Bey's was objectively better than Taylor's, BTS' etc (because she is unquestionably the better...everything). Yet, it ultimately comes down to the $$$. Whatever grosses more is "perceived" to be the more impactful, resonating, and newsworthy.

Sigh x100.
