I simply CANNOT WAIT for the cash grabs we're in for during the holidays before she loses AOTY in February

come to think of it. I hope whatever she does for Mufasa is genuinely good and a karaoke staple.

I can already see her slapping a Santa hat on Chardoneigh and charging us $60 for a Gildan tee…

And me really stressing myself out all day on whether or not I should get it before it sells out ! :fountain:

Omg Hollister was my first job and I would've probably tolerated it longer if they played music like this. They played the same OneRepublic song over and over and over again :jonny2:

Renaissance Tour was the best tour in the last five years.

The slow opening of the RWT did not work at all (on its own it was a stunning vocal showcase, but had no cohesion with the rest of the show whatsoever, and the 'beyonce opening for beyonce' thing wasnt conveyed well enough for it to be a funny switch-over once Rennie started).

On top of that, Cuff It's performances never never worked for me (she never managed to nail the delivery of her 'we gon **** up the night' head voice line), nor did Virgo's Groove (really, thats the song you're staying completely still for?).

RWT has some career highlight moments for me (Heated, Cozy, BMS, Pure/Honey, even Church Girl) but it's not her best setlist and it wasnt her best tour. It was her most fun, and I loved it, but it was obviously rushed and just didnt completely work I'm afraid.

On that topic, she needs to stop with these sunglasses during live performances. I'm not sure if they help boost her confidence or if it's purely a fashion choice, but it cuts her off from the audience completely and they render her charisma mute. TAKE THEM OFF MA'AM!

From my mind to your keyboard! Because a lot of what you wrote is TEA!

I will preface by saying I literally LOVE the RWT and from an experiential standpoint it's still probably my favorite concert show of hers in its totality (and I've been to all of her solo tours). A combo of the production, the scale, and my love for Rennie (possibly my fave album of hers now) makes it such.

That said, that "Beyonce Opening for Beyonce" thing just did not work in the way they thought it did. There were so many creative avenues that were not explored (from a proper video introduction maybe tongue in cheek "this rising star all the way from Houston Texas" to pre-tour announcing that she would be the sole "opening act" thus intriguing people and also ensuring they were there on time).

It really could have been a...thing-thing. Instead, they were somewhat mute about it, so to the majority, it was just a case of the RWT starting with ballads. She's lucky a) she gave a vocal masterclass and b) is "Beyonce" so people were just glad to see and hear...her. It thematically made ZERO sense in the context of the show.  IMO,  I can't shake my belief that it was a last-minute pivot because of her leg surgery and - because she's human - a way for her to ease into the show and being back on stage after such a long hiatus. Choreo etc may have been a challenge at that time, but she always knew/knows that she can rely on her voice. So, in that regard, it was "the" way to go. Because, creatively, it didn't make sense at all.

My issue with Cuff It, BMS, and Virgo is that they were some of the album's most uptempo/groove-led moments and yet were paired with the most down-tempo performances. Her energy and charisma compensated a lot for that and I suspect (again) that the show had to be reconfigured from maybe what was intentionally conceived because of her injury, but not dancing to the Dance music you put out is a... choice. I will say, though, that by that American leg, she was on fire during Cuff It and added more and more moves to it. So, it watched like one big party. I made peace with BMS way earlier, because it too succeeded in working like one big party train. Virgo...she was not serious for that.

As for the glasses, they are almost all a chop. It's so funny to watch our fave skew slightly Aunty at times. Because the glasses are so not it and tend to throw off whatever outfit she's wearing, and yet she persists.

I completely agree.

The only way we even realised as super fans that she was 'opening for herself' is because they wrote it on some merch.

Also, the song choices were abysmal. It would have been more interesting if she did a surprise song each show, or just switched it up more regularly, which would have been surely simple to carry off. Instead she played deep cuts. DiL is chill because it was her debut ballad. But Flaws and All?? Really?

This woman has so many classic slow jams. Irreplacable. IIWAB. Halo. All Night. Me Myself and I. I could go on.

Stadium tours are funny because there's too many seats. No matter how big you are, there'll be majority casual fans in the house. You have to cater to those casual fans with your setlist or they'll feel lost and confused. And that section had the chance to throw a bunch of classic Bey tracks at the audience to bring them onto the Rennie train. But she didn't do that!

So true!

The ballad opening was one thing, but the choices - like you said - were a little WTF lol. DIL works as a nod to "the era" that started it all etc. But the rest? Random af.

I see what she was trying to do putting Flaws and All (humanizing herself, as she tried to editorialize it as in the doc), but I still think it's moreso a case that she likes that song and that's further highlighted by the fact that there was no thematic tie-in to opening tracks performed. Just a random set of ballads back to back and then Rennie time lol.

Like you said, leaning into the "opening act" aspect, she could have used big crowd participation songs to get them ready for "the renaissance to come". You know, how opening acts hype up the main act within their set. Some proper call and repeat songs. Irreplaceable, Listen, etc

She chose those ballads because those are love songs she can sing to the fans. Duh. The only sneak is I Care, but that's the one she clearly enjoys doing the most (and to some extent fits the brief too).

Makes no sense at all to perform If I Were a Boy or Me Myself and I there.

I don't know what RWT some of yall went to but the opening ballads definitely worked for my show - it brought a different level of hype. Once she finished them and that Renaissance intro came on, wow. There was not one moment of the show that felt a bit slow. The Cuff It performance had everyone moving around me we didn't need to see her doing full out choreo for any thing

Lemme clarify, the ballad section didn't not work from the perspective of being "bad" or poorly received. She was phenomenal. After all, it's...Beyonce.

But, much as I love Bey, I almost adopt the same approach she does when it comes to output: I have notes!

And IMO, like @alien superstore said, it's just the ballad section/opening act concept could have been tweaked/fleshed out more. That's all.

As for Cuff It, in an era of no videos or no performances beyond the tour, you bet that I want/need to see Giselle dance DOWN to her DANCEiest song in years. It does not suffice having the magic happen around her.

I'm just not that type of fan that's about to hop aboard that Britney-stan mentality of "she has nothing to prove" or "can do what she wants' or "doesn't need to do xyz". I want to see Beyonce be "Beyonce" in the way SHE made me accustomed to being. Dancing her behind off.

At the same time, the realist in me understands that she has to evolve her performing style and heighten her preservation measures if she wants to still perform into her old age. So naturally pulling back on choreo was a given.

I'm eager for her next live thing, as we'll truly be able to see what her angle will be. Especially as we're beyond the injury now.

Wow. What a time!! Azealia Banks was really on her come-up. Between "Ratchet" and "Red Flame" for Lady Gaga, she was brought to the studio by Pharrell to work on a guide track for ATM Jam (originally for Beyonce), almost secured a place on ST with her "Partition" guest verse, had a side music project with Cara Delevigne (a band called "ABCD" and their lead single was "Blossom", Azealia's solo version leaked online), was rumored to have worked on music with Kanye for his GOOD Music "Cruel Winter" second compilation, and was in the studio with Hit-Boy for Rihanna (all of her demos for Rih have leaked online: "Kilo", "Let You In", "La Dominadora"). Crazy how you can truly be your own worst enemy and self-sabotage. If she was able to keep it together for those 3 years (2012-2015)... who knows what the female rap landscape would look like today.

Back on topic: I definitely think a music video was planned for Bow Down.

If I'm remembering this correctly, there was the IG photo you've posted above, another where she almost looks bow-legged in all black with a "Bow Down" snapback and a smoke machine about to break down some choreography, and another where it looked like she was driving a UPS truck (one of those mail carrier trucks with no side doors) in a warehouse/parking garage with striped dress pants. All three looked like they were taken around the same time.

I love everything about this post! Who knew the 2011-2013 era would be so rich to be a Beyonce stan. So much content!

It makes sense. Bow Down/I Been On was also released during that time if I'm not mistaken.

It was supposed to be just a fun surprise drop on Soundcloud, but eventually Bey changed her mind and decided to keep it on the album lmao, which is kinda ironic considering the absence of Grown Woman, isn't it?

I also remember that the visuals for Flawless were initially part of No Angel, so she likely scrapped the early version of Bow Down, in which the look above was featured I guess, and reused those visual for Flawless. It seems to be so, given that corny choreography, as it seems to have been created in a day or so.

Flawless was the last video to be shoot... I guess? I remember the inside tea, describing it as a song with a "grunge atmosphere" or something like that.

I could see that being that most of Beyonce's shots in No Angel were shot in AUS in an attempt to look like HTX. Also Flawless was def reshot. The first half of the video looks closer to Aug. 2013 (XO) and the heavier choreo elements on the second half resemble the short hair she had during the AUS MCSWT dates. I'd show proof but I'm busy lol!

I was skeptical of the opening at the first show, but by time I got to my two shows, it was a HUGE highlight.  Those vocals killed everyone before the show even started.  I mean you could actually see how amazed some people were, including the security, and staff of the venues, and then boom.  It was supposed to be like two separate shows, one a vocal showcase, and the other was the party.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I really did miss Halo.  It's such a big song on tour, and I wish she would've performed it.

When I think back to my show standing against the barricade in Club Renaissance sometimes I want to unstan. Why did she walk right past me in sun glasses and never look in my direction? Was it cause I had my camera out? "Feelin like an animal with these cameras all in my grill." Sorry that I want to preserve these memories. You're a performer you expect to be recorded during the entirety of your concert!

**** this line of thought tbh... you're at a concert, watch that ****. your stupid recording wont ever be special or interesting. You will most probably remember the footage more than your actual experience of the real thing.

Plus, you are not entitled to an artist addressing you or your stupid camera when they are BUSY PERFORMING for you anyway.

Sometimes I think fans are just awful people. Like, grow up and enjoy the show. Why the **** are you demanding an artist to look in your direction so you can then look at the footage and brag to your friends/social media followers? Is life that basic for you? damn...

This is the most active I've seen the base in ages. Not a rate or ranking in sight. No visual discussions either. Just gathering around our love of Beyonce.

With that being said I need someone new/active to stan :eli:
