the way he basically reviews it as a 9 but then has to convince himself at the end why he's actually giving it an 8 rip this is why your wife left you, baldy!

You just know his male straightness and thus insecurities prevented him from giving Olivia a 9 lol

while giving an album called brat a 10… the weird theories yall make over a random critic is crazy, why are you upset at a strong 8 LMAO

I don't know why he said "strong 8 light 9" does that not defeat the purpose of his ranking scale?

Because she deserved a minimum of a weak 9, duh

He generally isn't very nice to acts that wear their references on their sleeve but when it comes to Olivia he seems to understand her vision. I agree with everything bar the score. I would've probably given it a 9 but given his standards for pop albums strong 8/light 9 is excellent lol. Then again he does really like her (as he should) so it's isn't surprising. I don't think he's ever panned her.

I can't watch or read his reviews because he seems too scattered. Happy for Olivia though.

I don't think so? He gave Whats Your Pleasure a solid 9 or 10 back in 2020, and I believe it was his highest rated album of that year.

Brat is one of the only albums it's ok to like by the straights that care about reviews. There's nothing weird about that 10

it's seriously such a f*cking good album, it's lowkey reminding me of how Melodrama felt when it was released back in 2017. I mean there are plenty of other pop albums I prefer to Melodrama (...honestly? including this one lol. no shade to the legendary Melodrama but this Olivia album feels slightly more replayable to me the whole way thru idk) but the rawness fused with the pop visions fused with the storytelling fused with the me losing someone who's mostly tainted my year? yeah. years repeat themselves sometimes giraffe and not to be a broken record but it also reminds me a LOT of Kelly Clarkson's masterpieces My December and All I Ever Wanted. pop rock brilliance prevails clap3

I guess, though it's clear that there's some bias going on. Olivia is still very much giving "teenage"-music and subsequently would never get the top scores by hipsters and music-nerds (just because of her age and reputation)

men especially older ones seem to like Olivia, she's exactly the kind of thing i would've played in the car as a teen and my dad would notice and remember her

a strong 8/light 9, whew jonnycat

he mentioned 10/13 songs as his favorites, lmao.

To Fantano's credit, he's consistently been in her corner since Guts. When he listened to that album on his stream for the first time, he had to pause the music and rip into his chat for being sexist regarding her music ("if she were a man singing over this you all would be eating it up").

I think there is certainly a conversation to be had regarding some straight male music critics and their treatment and interpretation of music made by women, but when it comes to Olivia, I don't think it's fair to Fantano to lump him in with the rest of them when it's clear he likes her music and gives her a score consistent with his enjoyment of the album.
