she has the pop sensibilities to deliver a hit if she wants, she just prefers to make music she likes. nothing wrong with that.

The GP love Miley, but she prefers to be doing more alternative-inspired music and positioning herself as an old legend instead of a popstar. If she makes something broad enough & catchy enough, which hits the GP in the right way, then she has a guaranteed hit (see Flowers, Nothing Breaks Like a Heart)

When she acts like she doesn't care, she will find an organic hit. When she shows she cares, it probably flops.

She cared a lot about Plastic Hearts, although it was an era where people recognized her talents again, she kinda flopped. When she didn't give a **** (she was on a vacation), flowers happened. Again with SB, she cared enough to make visual album, she flopped hard.

It's too bad the GP didn't bite because as a longtime Miley fan I thought it was a beautiful album and project. I got to see the film in theatres while I was in Florence and it was a f*cking blast.

Critic response needs to be taken in context of the artist they're for.

For a hyper-polarizing figure like Miley Cyrus, it feels a little naive to think her metacritic score is gonna accurately reflect the quality of her work.

Dead Petz was panned on release and is now being reassessed and praised. I expect the same for Something Beautiful.
