Try to give it listen in this order, for me it works the best, opening with Superbloom and ICGUTT of the lush 70s almost acoustic soul, going into more uptempo disco tracks (Mon Amour and DYKWIA) where first electro 80s synths and baselines are introduced and then into heavy synth Sauna + Ride, moving into very uptempo Mr.Valentine where little laser psychedelic elements are at the end moving into No Consequences which follows the 70s feel, back to midtempo Automatic, slowing down to Love For You and close it with ballad 16 Summer.

Another great lush disco album but I REALLY hope now that she gave us this disco mother trilogy she will re-explore her pop/modern production on her next album. I am saying this as an OG stan since Devotion.... I wish she would stretch herself sonically moving forward.

Context: I have been following Jessie since the start of her career. I bought the physical CD of Devotion on release day. I went to the Devotion tour and was front row... so I've been a fan...

My thoughts on first listen:

Jessie sounds like she's torn between the music she thinks her post-WYP fanbase expects from her, which is gay, camp and sexy music, and the music she seems to be drawn to naturally, more soulful, sparse and romantic.

Sauna and Ride do not belong on this album. Ride doesn't belong on any album at all. Unlistenable rubbish.

I wish she had leaned into the soul sound more, and was more confident in that as a stand alone project. The interludes seem like a poor attempt to stitch the album together. It doesn't work. But there is some great writing on here.

The mixing on Don't You Know Who I Am is really weird. They buried a great song under some muddy and loud drums.

Highlights: Superbloom, Love You For, No Consequences, Mon Amour

But that's how the song is meant to be, like walking into the club style. She's also singing in a more talking manner, kind of sexy and deviant.

You got to put yourself in her vision of the tracks theme.
