My mom passed away last week. I know I mentioned her wanting to hear a Beyonce rock album as she has anticipated it for years, and I'm so sad she didn't get to hear it before she passed (if that's wha

I really hope we get it soon. My mom loves Beyonce, and her favorite genre is rock, she is SO excited. She just got diagnosed with terminal cancer, and I really hope she gets to hear the album while

Damn, can't we like… do an official B'Day rating or something for now? I'd start a thread but I'm not very tech savvy and would probably **** it all up and be delayed with the ratings. Most of this back and forth going on in here will be redundant by next week.

If true that execs held BIK floppage against her, that would be very weird considering that it was JUST a side project and that Rennie was her FIRST SOLO ALBUM IN FOUR YEARS WITH A NUMBER ONE LEAD SINGLE, THREE PLUS GRAMMYS AND A CULTURE DEFINITELY WORLD TOUR.

It made nearly $2 billion at the box office. The real reason why it failed is because she waited over a year from its release to post it and didn't do anything more than a instagram post to promote it. Hamilton and Mandalorian were both flourishing, so no, it wasn't because people only subscribed for kids content (which Black is King was meant to be for kids btw)

Right. Black Is King on paper should have smashed. It was a flop by Beyoncé's brand standards and we really need to accept reality. And that impacts future deals!

Black Is King was attached to a major hit blockbuster, which is much a more culturally prominent sell than a couple of hit singles.

Also the tour happened after she was pitching the visuals to the streamers, so it couldn't have really counted for anything at the time.

I agree that Renaissance visuals should have been considered an easier sell to audiences, but the leak also said they were very strange, like an art film (e.g. a hard sell). Lemonade was artsy but it was fuelled by the exclusive reveal of celebrity scandal and infidelity. Renaissance doesn't have that.

I feel that Black Is King underperformed because it wasn't marketed properly.

The album was a side project which was overshadowed by both the film's original soundtrack and Beyoncé's own release of Homecoming in the same period.

It's bad enough Beyoncé didn't promote it (as per), but Spirit was also an awful lead single as it's underwhelming and not representative of the project as a whole. The album was also named The Gift, which didn't tie it to the film properly. It's also her only project to not have any form of physicals.

I think the visual album and the deluxe edition re-release (without the visuals) improved the album's identity significantly, but it came too late to fully revive it in the long term.

Regardless, I think that the album contains some of her best songs. Find Your Way Back, Mood 4 Eva, Water and My Power all deserved to be massive.

Why do y'all pay this dust?

Imagine how she would sound like performing this with today's vocals.

I'd really appreciate a DC tour after this trilogy era is over. I'd love to hear them sing songs never performed before, from all 4 albums.

creole was already on streaming since 2014

This deserves all the streams of the (basic) Brown Eyes…even if Beyoncé was a little (over) indulgent with the runs.

I'd also love to hear her sing it now and how she approaches it.

Speaking of indulgent runs…I'd love to hear her sing Silent Night now. This acoustic version is EVERYTHING. You have to be a musician to really appreciate the chords and intervals used.

I think Bigger wouldve been a better song to push, or even 'find your way back', since the moment in the movie they put in Spirit, simba is finding his way back home. But Tbh all the problems stem from Beyoncé herself, Disney did try to push the visual, it was all over the app and there were youtube ads promoting it as well.

A BLACK album amidst "Wakandification," "Mama Africa," Tiffany Blood diamonds, and Noname anti-capitalist online controversies celebrating Africa with no tour? No matter how excellent the music/visuals would be, lukewarm reception was expected.

Sidebar: SEO is very important. It made no sense for Black Is King to not be in the name of the deluxe edition. People were typing in Black Is King on Spotify and Apple Music and finding nothing.

to spread some positivity, it's kinda amazing how RWT with like 2 weeks made $44 million worldwide #yearof4, whereas Billie Eilish's latest data center generated concert movie could only manage $20 million worldwide... and she had James Cameron direct it, one of the biggest directors of all time.

now lets move on before I start thinking about how she didnt put it up for sale for no reason.

I think she just choose the alligator to fit with the trilogy aesthetics. She didn't tease it with the CCT alligators. Those were for the song. It was just a coincidence she had a photoshoot with alligators which was pretty iconic and when she realized that they fit together, she decided to use it

FYWB definitely shouldʻve been the single. Fit the movie thematically/lyrically, very radio friendly (multi-format), fodder for dance trends, etc. Still makes me mad lol

I love "Already" even more.

I agree about "Find your back". Could have easily been the lead, instead of "Spirit".

"Water", "My Power", "Bigger" and "Brown skin girl" are all single worthy songs. Bey just didn't give af about promoting such a great album.

Creole has always been available on Spotify

It is geo-blocked in many countries.
