MPGs most daring albums?

Featured Replies

What are some of our MPG's most risky albums?

Some like

Gaga

Beyonce

Taylor Swift

Rihanna

Katy Perry

Britney Spears

Mariah Carey

etc

Edited by Rev8

Katy's 143 is the riskiest because it is risky for an artist to release bad music.

Instead of doing a janet 2.0 she went for an album that explored neo soul, dance and alternative R&B with her most personal songwriting to date and it paid off! It's her best album ever.

Went from cookie cutter pop with SAW and PWL to signing with an indie label and releasing an album that was a complete 180 from that era and even a departure from her 1994 release

Some of her most personal songwriting since Ray of Light, American Life sees Madonna questioning her life and the world with bold productions

Instead of keeping the pop/R&B sound of Stripped for her next album, Christina did a complete 180 and made an album filled with jazz and 1940s influences

4 - for doing a funky, more stripped back r&b album when all the other pop girls were doing edm

selftitled - releasing an album out of nowhere with 0 prior announcement that was much darker and more sexual than anything she's made before

cowboy carter - sonically daring by being an experimental concept album based on a genre her core audience and most people don't expect/like

Ava Max's Don't Click Play :jonny:

In fact, it was banned by Billboard from charting on their Top 200 chart cause it was too risky!

THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT.

Many people try to minimize the absolute beauty of this album because it didn't meet their expectations or sound pop-girly and fun enough. But the truth is, it was a daring album for Taylor for many reasons.

First, it's not a commercial album, not designed to be played on the radio, and it was released at her peak (not just any peak but arguably the biggest peak of any artist of the 21st century). Any other artist would have released a highly commercial record to capitalize on their momentum, but taylor put out a polarizing project that many people were never going to understand.

Secondly, it's highly personal, angry, and deeply depressing, super agonizing and excruciatingly raw. She had no filters. she needed to get things off her chest and move on with her life without having to associate with the album after its release week.

And lastly, it's a long album and long albums are rarely well received.

Scarlet by Doja Cat

literally a complete 360 from her last few projects, yet still retained her artistic sensibilities

This, though. I don't know any pop girls who have ever gone as hard as Omanko, Kristine, or the title track.

Reputation and especially LWYMMD was risky. I don't think the sounds were anything brand new or experimental, but for her it was such a 180 at a critical point in her career.

I mean it was risky to release an album sung by someone else!

Wasn't the lead single a Major Lazer sample
