Kim Petras - 'Detour'
IF this were the case, I wish she'd just say so. Because every single that comes out it just feels like "ok but when's the album" and makes the single feel less satisfactory

I think Taylor has some great pop music. Honestly, most of her work pre-whatever TLOAS is. The issue is the stan base. And my point of lumping her in was that due to her weird hate for Charli (which led her to write the horrendous Actually Romantic) which has led Swifties to hate on Charli.

oh... kinda here for it then tbh

I don't think it was a 5D chess move or even remotely genius lol but a lot people in this thread are just taking it face-value from her as being sincere when it's very obviously satirical. This is still a dumb fun pop song, like everything else posted on this site at the end of the day.

Hope it's a banger and not a soft little "yuh" ringtone thing

It's so very obviously her tongue-in-cheek but also earnest response to BRAT and y'all are taking the bait lol

Final thought, I wouldn't expect people who stan Tate McCrae, Taylor, Ava Max, etc. to appreciate a clearly tongue in cheek satirical POP song with a couple fx heavy guitars and that's ok, you don't have to like it!

First of all, the production is GREAT! Everything I want from her and the PC crew - abrasive, textural, in your face but still ultimately pop candy, this time with a sprinkle of tongue in cheek "rock" Lyrically, I'm still trying to figure out a bit. It's interesting, I'm noticing a couple things going on: The (almost too) earnest parts: Me and my friends We go out We take pictures And make stuff together And sometimes we cry We kiss each other Real incestuous vibes Yeah, we're so inspired Basically all the time And then the self-deprecating tongue in cheek second verse about how hurting herself on tour by banging her head and jumping about is what makes her a "rock star". Love the humor in that, it almost reminds of Pavement lyrics: I'm really banging my head I'm really hurting my neck The nerve damage is real But it's the only way to feel something Hurt yourself Yeah, maybe jump off the stage I hope they catch you today But if they don't, it's okay That overall mix of earnest with self-deprecating humor reminds me a LOT of AG's solo music, like his song Silver for example: Sonically though, as we expected, it's completely in the vein of AG's more rock leaning work and Thy Slaughter's (AG and Finn) recent album: I also have seen the sentiment thrown around that she's "taking the piss out of rock/punk" which like... sure at face value... but it's more than just that. She's more using the idea of being a "rock star" as a metaphor for her current emotional and physical state (banging her head, jumping off the stage and hoping the catch her, hurting herself doing impulsive things) and then making that a vehicle for the overall narrative sonically. It's evident that she was also HEAVILY inspired by the overall approach of passing off a satirical rock song as an actual "rock" song, which has been done many times before, most well-known though in Song 2 by Blur, another barely 2 minute banger which she was clearly inspired by on all fronts. It's also clear some of you have very little actual experience with actual rock (Avril Lavigne and Olivia Rodrigo don't count, though I'd argue what Charli put out is closer to that vein) or even modern day hyperpop so just for fun, some sub-2 minute bangers:

I never gaf about her (besides random slays like Icy and Personal Hell) but I've stanned everything from this era

Some of y'all crying for punk when there are thousands of punk songs that don't even make it to the 1:30 mark, let alone 2 minutes
