How insane was DC's run?

Featured Replies

Despite only releasing albums within a 6 yr period (1998-2004), the group has sold an impressive 52m SPS units. Say my name is also a classic, with over 1 billion streams on Spotify.

This places them as the 2nd highest selling girlgroup of all time, behind only the Supremes.

Their SPS units also places DC above impressive artists like Spice Girls, Nysnc, Blackpink, Avril, Dua, JLo, Selena Gomez, TLC, Little Mix etc.

I always found it interesting how DC destroyed NSYNC outside the U.S.    You would think a white boyband doing pure pop music would've been more global at the time but nope.  - Queens

  • I'll never forget when "independent women" dropped...   It was HUUUUGE. My neighbour blasted the song from his living room every single day, until someone called the police.

To this day they're still the blueprint. Three members, three superstars.

People always talk about MJ and Tina, but they never talk about the fact that she's literally Diana's daughter as well :coffee:

The embodiment of the greatest greats that came before her, oh my favé :clap3:

Yes, and in that period they were serving quality music, vocals, talent, VISUALS.

Most of the other groups can't relate.

They were always on the radio back then too. Bills and Jumping were on nonstop:jonny5:i still remember burning lose my breath for my first CD player

Survivor video on the music channel as a kid got me in to music. They were inescapable :clap3:

It's also interesting to point that multiple members succeeded solo which is kinda unusual (Kelly had a hit before Beyonce and a sizeable solo career, LeToya later found success within the Rnb community)

I remember waking up to get ready for school and Soldier was always on MTV. :skull:

Lose my Breath is like one of my all time favorite cardio songs when I workout :jonny2: I remember hearing it when I did a deep dive into DC's catalog like 10 years ago or more and it's been my fav uptempo of theirs for AGES so I was shook it didnt peak at #1. It just sounds so good. An underrated classic TO ME :clap3:

The number of classics they had :jonny2:

Say My Name, Bills, Jumpin', Independent Woman, Lose My Breath, Survivor, Bootylicious. Whew.

Yep and I always love reminding the Dustin stans who thought he was the male counterpart to Beyoncé of this fact too lol. I loved NSYNC but they only really smashed in North America. Also, a lot of their music wasn't even "pure pop". Hell, they were copying several black groups, iykyk lol.

It was insane. You still see/hear their influence today. It is only dwarfed in modern times by the fact that Beyoncémania got even bigger than DC mania but those who were there remember and those who weren't there can only dream.

watch this short MTV doc on them at the peak of their powers for clear skin
