Whenever someone said they would bareback with prep, the usual response would be "bUt yOU cAn sTiLL GeT STDs!!". With doxypep preventing you from getting STIs like gonorrhea and chlamydia, is the era of condoms officially OVER?

no because there are (many) other STIs. it's insanely irresponsible that so many gays think this way too. 

No my partner and I are monogamous and sti free and use condoms to lower the risk of bladder infections. Condoms still serve a purpose. 

If you are not vaccinated against HPV? Leading to anal cancer. 

 

How about resistant syphilis or other STI's that come up? 

 

Just condom up. It's safer.

Doxycycline reduces the risk of STIs, but it does not entirely eliminate that risk. Using it can also contribute to antimicrobial resistance in some bacteria, and that's not to mention that like any drug, it has side effects and other considerations. Not everyone can even use it safely - again, like any drug. Science can improve our lives, but it's not miracle magic; condoms and other physical methods of protection are here to stay.

I don't think taking antibiotics every time you have sex is a good idea 

Are people really using doxy as a prevention?! No wonder antibiotics are less and less effective. Just rubber up!

It's stuff like this that make me not consider myself part of the gay community. I am gay but i just am not at all anything like what the majority of that community is. I have an entirely different way of thinking than most gays imo. I find yall nasty tbh. Not in a judgemental way, yall do you, but I want no part of it or yall. 

I'm on both. As someone who isn't shy about giving it up, you should be not blasting your body with DOXYPEP as often as you can. It is not Ibuprofen. You guys need to think longterm!

For people who already have kidney issues, maybe unfortunately, however some medications can actually put more strain on the kidneys than PrEP does.
 

Take ibuprofen, for example, it's a drug that many people use regularly, but its impact on kidney function is far stronger than PrEP's. If you've ever read the full list of side effects and risks in ibuprofen's description, you might think twice about ever taking it even if your life depended on it.

No. These medications are not intended to be used as the one and only defense, they're intended to be used in tandem with condoms. If you're not in a monogamous relationship, even if you're on PREP, you need to be practicing safe sex. The AIDS Epidemic taught us all some hard lessons. Don't go throwing them away simply because there's a medication that is intended to assist in prevention alongside common sense safety.
