Florence + The Machine - 'Everybody Scream'

The way I'm about to buy both Chamber editions for the CD and Vinyl, and I already bought the standard vinyl and CD for the signed inserts, and then I just bought the indie Bloodwood edition version :gaycat2:

Love Florence, but this isn't demonic enough for me. If the rest of the album is like this I might just stick with Britney.

the cover convinced me, and the snippet too!

Wow the old religion is a RELIGIOUS EXPERIENCE. That was stunning. TOR and Sympathy magic are my top 2 by far

For the record, I don't keep up with her personal life at all (and english is not my first language)... and I was convinced she was lesbian and she was singing about her lover(s) in Everybody Scream

I will stand by that first interpretation bc the lyrics really do give that and I found that quite *****

:clack:

Yeah, this took a second to get into but it's definitely in my upper echelon of Florence's work (as a How Big… and High as Hope in my top two).

The run from the title track to Perfume and Milk might be one of the strongest runs she's had in an album. Buckle is basically a Jenny Lewis song, but really hits as men are impossible to deal with.

Kraken will be fun live even if it doesn't hit so much at the moment, though I do love the idea of a chorus being loud and screaming "do you see me now?" with a gospel chorus. Even the idea of "revenge being the best form of success" still being empty when only mired in vengeance is also great.

As a Buffy fan, loved how it's referenced in One of the Greats (and generally think it's one of her greatest songs, but the more direct reference in The Old Religion feels kind of clumsy?

Overall, a very strong effort.

The Old Religion and One Of The Greats are career highlights :bird:

You Can Have It All is a clear single.

And Love is my favorite. I need an extended in-studio release. One of the Greats + Kraken are good as well.

Her best album? :jonny:

ES > HB > the rest are interchangeable depending on the day/mood tbh

I love when we sync up bestie.

I genuinely think there's not a single weak song on this album, I try to just give a quick listen to my faves but then I find myself going through the whole thing cause there are no skips

Kraken makes me wanna jump around my house moving and screaming like Florence does on her videos :jonny4:

Ugh, now this is my Flo right here! I'm already liking this album way better than I did Dance Fever.

Still digesting the album but my standouts so far are Sympathy Magic, The Old Religion, Drink Deep (come one vocal runs!), Perfume and Milk and You Can Have It All.

Kind of shocked by the praise this album is getting. It's so boring. I'm only keeping title track, perfume & milk, and the old religion. It's better than High As Hope, but this is easily her second weakest album.

Oh Everybody Grows the sly masterpiece you turned out to be.

And all of my peers, they had such potential
The swamp, it took them down
And my love, I have to tell you
I kissed them all and let them drown, oh
You didn't see me, just another drunken groupie
So when your hand reached out
I just pushed you further down
Well, do you see me now?????

It requires time and attention :cm: It's definitely her least immediate album but such a rewarding one

Drink Deep is soooooo goood :jonny5:

Yes, this is quickly becoming one of my favourite Florence albums. There's a friction to some of the songs I find deeply compelling, because it does break into the softest melodies which provides immediate relief and balm for the wounds of the lyrics. The quieter songs are my favourites: Perfume and Milk, Buckle, Music by Men, And Love: all sung with perfect control and emotion (for how a magnificent a force her voice is, the balance must be a difficult act for her). And Old Religion hits a bitsy too close to home tbh.

I'm so glad I kinda ignored the singles cause now I'm obsessed with Everybody Scream and One of the Greats and everything feels so fresh :jonnycat:
