only a few songs in my first listen, but you can tell this album was produced by Dessner
but it's great so far

The ending of Drink Deep reminded me of that scene in The Mist

Played the album five or six times today, love it so so much. So many brilliant moments. So much depth. 
 

 

 

Music By Men kinda reminds me of Sufjan's To Be Alone With You. 

At times this feels like a spoken word poem or a run on sentence... Like it actually sounds like the Dance Fever poem versions  

 

It is a lovechild of High as Hope and Dance Fever but doesn't ever reach the highs of either. It just feels like anything on this album she has already done and in a much better way.

It was the lead single so it's been out for a while so I guess people don't pay much mind to it anymore. It's a great opener  What did you think of the rest?

Witch Dance is giving wattpad erotica but done well (Taylor could never).

 

Kraken's first verse seems like it's about jerking off to her celebrity crush, which basically makes the song tentacle porn??

 

"I'm stupid and I'm damaged" 

 

"We discussed something called compromise / a brand new concept that I never tried"

 

"I realized I drank of myself" not the Jojenpaste impact

 

And of course the drag performance and lashings on One of the Greats

 

 

Why is she giving comedienne?

Truly enjoyed this album. I believe all the songs are great, however The Old Religion towers so much above the rest it's insane, now that's a SONG. I also agree with the album kind of shifting after that song. Drink Deep is perhaps what I thought this album was gonna sound like based only from the witch imagery.

Cant believe im saying this but this is my very first Florence album I listen to in full and im pleasantly surprised! Love the witchy vibes of the chanty backing vocals. First listen standouts are Sympathy Magic, Buckle, Kraken, and You Can Have It All. Also the closing track sounds ethereal! 
 

Will be relistening
