Love Florence, but this isn't demonic enough for me. If the rest of the album is like this I might just stick with Britney.

the cover convinced me, and the snippet too!

I cannot freaking wait to know the song titles :deadbanana2: I think with DF, she started the tracklist reveal only a couple days after the initial announcement?

We deserve 21 :coffee2:

I'm optimistic overall about this project. Even though some of the lyrics in the title track feel a little clunky to me, like the spoken word elements at the end, her commitment to the sound and image is undeniable. Hopefully, we get at least a couple more music videos to fully realize the horror narrative. It seems like a full concept album.

I guess it's not exactly spoken word, but "the witchcraft, the medicine, the spells, and the injections, the harvest, the needle..." etc. is a bit heavy-handed for me. But that's also why I assume it's a full concept record, which is preferable if the lyrics are going to lay it out explicitly like that.

Hmm maybe idk what you mean "lay it out explicitly" then (sorry, don't bother replying if you don't care enough LOL I'm just wondering 😁)

I kinda get what OP is saying bc it's extremely on the nose. It's like, a grocery list of all the album's themes (maybe?) and if that's the case it's not a challenging or explorative listen, it's kinda just…up front about it.

but let's see what else is coming before jumping to conclusions!

Florence when writing about her relationships uses mythology, historical and literary references to evoke grand feelings with her analogies which brings gravitas to what might be relatively mundane ****, like she'd never be as boring as:
And I can see us twisted in bedsheets
August sipped away like a bottle of wine

Florence when singing about her music, performing or writing is way more literal and it's very noticeable.

The witchcraft, the medicine, the spells, and the injections, the harvest, the needle.

Yes we know that music is magic to you Florence, you keep telling us!

Ah I see. Hmm idk, sometimes she's very literal in her lyrics, so that's not new. Also, if we didn't have that interview that told us what the album is inspired by, we wouldn't know for sure based on the lyrics alone; we would just be speculating it was about her health scare. I think it's still very effective - a listing isn't a bad thing!

I really like the outro lyrics, very haunting and effective in paining the imagery for the songs/album to come.

But overall, Everybody Scream is not giving me anything new in lyrical content, I think it's a fine lead single to introduce us to the theme of the album but at the same time it's nothing we haven't heard from her. Curious about the rest, I am sure it's going to be a serve.

That failed attempt to drag Taylor/August is really a sign of people who do not listen to artists, since Florence herself loves Taylor and has publicly cited her and her advice as the change her writing has had since High As Hope.

I really like the song, it is not an instant hit but her stronger songs always come out a bit later in the single runs while the lead seem to be used to set an album's themes and overall sounds.

I am guessing we will get a more mature Ceremonials with touches of What Kind Of Man.

Yes, basically these. It's like the musical equivalent of telling us rather than showing us. Laid out like this it's removing some nuance or subtext. I really do not want to focus on this too much because we have only heard one song! I love Florence's writing, and I'm still excited by the potential of this project. But now I'm expecting some "Waking the Witch" type tracks.

People complaining about the music meanwhile I fall victim to a full on possession everytime this song comes on

The chorus is so infectious omg and idk the lyrics, as someone who's chronically anxious and terrified of taking up "too much space", are hitting so hard

Here I can take up the whole of the sky,

Unfurling becoming my full size

UGH.

Aging so well :jonny2:

I'm continually thankful she's never abandoned the orchestral elements to her music.. and of course, always rich production and live instrumentation. There is no such thing as CHEAP for Miss Welch!

Idk if anyone has listened to the ES instrumental on YT, but it's so good. This is one of her best mixed songs IMO. Can really hear everything :heart2:

I also found the production spectacular, I saw a lot of people comparing it to Dance fever, more specifically to Daffodil, but Daffodil seems almost like an apathetic DEMO compared to it

if this pre-release is going to be any similar to High As Hope/Dance Fever, then we might be getting another song next week already, right? It'll be interesting to see if Flo is gonna repeat that release pattern again.

I've personally really enjoyed this approach of just getting a few songs out there right away and then another one closer to the album. I remember being very hyped in the first weeks of DF pre-release because there was just so much happening!
