Rita's new singles are performing abysmally. To think this woman went from having actual hits (Your Song, Anywhere, Let You Love Me) to this is actually extremely concerning. Is Mabel even doing this low of numbers?

I really wish she hadn't had an acrimonious break-up with Calvin Harris in 2014. The timing couldn't have been worse.

 

His production (lead single) "I Will Never Let You Down" was gearing up to be her solo US breakout single when it actually debuted on the Hot 100 on its own, but their breakup stopped promotion of the single when late night shows and pop radio were catching on. It was clear based on her collaborators (StarGate, THEE Prince, Chris Brown, Wiz Khalifa, Sir Nolan, Diplo, Calvin Harris, The Monsterz & the Strangerz, Julia Michaels) that the now-shelved album "IWNLYD", "Poison", and "Body On Me" were meant for was meant to break America. I actually think she had a chance, if you look at the streams on the videos below. If she had parted ways with Roc Nation after that second project was released and gone on to her highly-successful UK/EU/AUS album Phoenix with Atlantic Records, I feel people stateside would have a better idea of her, her music success would be more widespread, and North America would help push Bang, her third album You & I on BMG, and these current singles.

she's still making phoenix era music in 2025 it's like her A&R are stuck in 2018.

 

it doesn't help that as a personality or figure she's quite faceless and random af… it's a shame since she can sing well and is beautiful lol

To be fair, she survived the 2nd era curse which is not easy to do for UK pop acts. Especially since she had more obstacles in her way than most do (at least that is public knowledge). 
 

I think Covid halted her momentum and Bang EP aside her music has felt a little undercooked (although I've still been bopping). 

I don't want to be rude but she has always bored me in tv shows or with her music or performances, I never got it, at all

Or go the complete opposite direction and become a critical darling - Kate Bush, Annie Lennox, Charli XCX etc. That looks like the same path Raye will be following down too. 

 

Rita getting 8 years worth of legitimate hit making is really impressive though all things considered. UK popgirls typically max out at five.
