Not to sidetrack the conversation but FElon got rid of like 80% of previous twitter staff. There is literally no one running that ship which is why the app is slowly coming apart

Gracie Abrams says that the nepo baby discourse surrounding her is appropriate
Like others have said, it's not just the financial aspect, but it's the connections you have too. I know plenty of well-off people who can dedicate lots of time to doing what they love without any other form of income apart from the bank of mum and dad, but they don't have the connections to break into the industry. I get this is a prewritten PR statement to avoid backlash, but it's not truly acknowledging the full bounds of being a nepo baby. I will give her some gracie though because I haven't actually watched the full interview and she might have discussed this too. And I disagree with people saying that music nepotism is different to other forms of nepotism. Whilst artists do eventually find their audience, in the modern day audiences have their music curated for them with playlisting, radio, advertisements and what have you- all of which Gracie has had a big backing for through nepotism! Why don't nepo babies dedicate time to their craft and find an audience in an organic way without relying on connections? Because it's easier, but they refuse to admit that they don't work as hard as those who came into the industry with nothing to their name (rare these days, but I do think PinkPantheress is a great example of this). I think the only form of nepotism that is somewhat different is like, medical nepotism or something. Talent and skills that are actually quantifiable.

Pete Buttigieg falsely accused of violent child abuse, swatted and reported to CPS
And i'm not denying any of that edit: just wanted to expand, i and other social workers i know (definitely not all) work hard to address and overcome biases, it's why we have regular supervisions to discuss and reflect on our practice constantly (in the UK, but I assume practice in US is somewhat similar and supervision is consistent). i just don't agree with the language used that it's comparable to an armed SWAT team that could kill you the moment they step into the home. ultimately, we are trying to investigate the welfare of the child and we have to follow due processes (which pete acknowledges) but unfortunately this does include sometimes investigating malicious referrals for the sake of a child's safety. i don't disagree that at the same time, our systems consistently fail minority families

Pete Buttigieg falsely accused of violent child abuse, swatted and reported to CPS
the dislikes on this lol… no one's disputing the fact that it is a stressful, invasive, and sometimes traumatic experience to go through however AS A SOCIAL WORKER it's very disheartening to see a politician compare investigating a referral to literal armed officers bashing your doors down with guns. let's exercise a little nuance here edit: and i'm not excusing/ignoring/overlooking that it was a malicious & probably homophobic report made against him ! i'm talking about the language used here

France records hottest day ever as 40 people have drowned while swimming to cool down
I'm just speaking in regards to the UK, it's not the norm to have sliding windows, they open outwards or inwards so under window AC doesn't work. The rest just circles back to paying a minimum of £1k to install any other type of AC unit which people aren't willing to do and just can't afford. Portable AC units are the cheaper way to go, I should probably invest in one. & yeah an apartment probably doesn't need more than one unit but a house would, unless everyone wants to sleep in the living room ! the majority of the uk population live in houses

France records hottest day ever as 40 people have drowned while swimming to cool down
The average person doesn't have the money to spend £1k+ on A/C per room for short heatwaves (though I'm aware it's only worse from here), additionally windows in the UK (not sure about the rest of Europe) aren't built for window AC units. We probs should start splurging on smaller AC units that range from 300-500 but tbh, people (including myself sometimes) are too stubborn to even spend that much for something that will be used for less than 2 weeks in a year. OT: We're going to perish so severely. Live your life i guess

UPDATE: Halsey vs Fantano: Fantano drags Halsey's past making out with underage fans
Kinda just repeating what others have said, but a music critic is obviously well within their rights to analyse what they believe to be poor songwriting. However, the way Fantano has gone about this is very strange and misogynistic, but reflective of how the world treats people (especially women) with disabilities and other debilitating health conditions in general. Those defending him are clearly people who have never had such a tragic experience with their health, I don't think people really understand or can comprehend how much a health problem can change your world… Main character syndrome: "You are the protagonist and everyone else is often a sidekick or a villain. You often see yourself as the most important person in the room, and you act according to the narrative of your plot — however you define it." - I really don't think exploring the topic of your health and mortality fits into this description, but I can see how able and healthy people would struggle to understand this until they face it themselves. Halsey should have dragged him more tbh!

Fantano interviews Olivia Rodrigo
i've seen someone call a celeb on this site an "ugly prostitute" and everyone ignore it, look at the way people have spoken about charli on the most recent thread about her, let's not even get started on the normalised fatphobia to Lizzo on here but it's ok because it's Lizzo. Some of you are definitely just as, if not more, misogynistic than anthony fantano lmao!

North West performs her first solo set at Summer Smash festival
Let the girl and the other nepos have their fun… this is my case with all nepo babies (and I mean all)- I can never take them fully seriously, nor should they ever be taken fully seriously, because they could never reach the level of someone who has truly worked skin and bones to get where they are. Hard work pays off and a nepo baby could never work hard enough, by nature…

Support group for people with sunburn
Ok so I actually have photosensitive skin and have had burns that have led to skin infections before, so here's what works for me: Like others have said, stay hydrated and stay out of the sun until you are healed. It's better to avoid the sun because applying sunscreen over a burn can sting. Sunscreen EXPIRES. Make sure you are not using an old bottle and also make sure you are reapplying every 2 hours, or after getting wet. My holy grail sunscreen is Eucerin sun allergy cream. I find bottled aloe vera gels a piece of ****, I dont know what it is but they make my skin sting very bad if applied on a burn. Instead, buy an aloe vera plant. They're not expensive, they're low maintenance, and most importantly you can use the gel in its purest form. It also doesn't give a greasy feel, it cools and soothes and dries like water. Edit: I forgot to add, make sure you apply sunscreen under sheer clothes as you can still burn. Also be wary if it's cloudy as you can still burn if UV is high

Perrie says she won't reconcile with Jesy
Saying this as someone who has never been a fan of LM & watched parts of the documentary whilst my housemate watched it - correct me if I'm wrong but Jesy did take accountability for the way she acted and admitted she should have been different? Does that refute her experience of the girls? I remember something about an attempted suicide which the girls didn't have the best response to. I don't know, I feel like Jesy is valid in some ways and the other girls are valid in other ways. But from my perspective, Perrie seems more focused on the blame game
