Whenever I make or receive a customer service call, the service person on the other end is usually using a smartphone now.

So we wind up having a lot of "I can't hear you!"/"Can you hear me now?"/"Yes, I can hear you but I can't understand what you're saying!"/"Can you hear me now?"/"Yes, but it's muffled!"/"Can you hear me now??" exchanges before somebody bursts into tears and hangs up.

I mean, it's a problem. And no matter how good the reception is, there is something unnatural about the sound of voices through cellphones and the flow of the conversation is often clunky e.g. silences and then starting to speak at the same time. There's just something "off" about it.

Is it a problem for anybody else??

I never had a landline but they seem like a pain tbh. Imagine your whole household getting notified every time oomf wants to talk **** 

I've only ever had that when calling up restaurants and that's more because of the background noise than anything else. Normally I can hear people perfectly fine on the phone?

I don't pickup phone calls so no

We still have a landline in my house. We don't use it often but it's still in service.

I'm not sure about landlines but one thing I've noticed and it drives me crazy is how phones have advanced so much except in audio quality of phone calls… like it's the most primary function of a phone, why is audio quality still so crap?  even on iPhones when you have the voice isolation mic mode enabled … it's just CRAP

I just got one again recently bc it was like 10 bucks more than what I was already paying for my internet and I've loved it  ordering pizza and **** is easier that way

They were great for spying on people. I got so much tea from spying on my parents conversations.

i actually have a line on my modem but i havent gotten a phone for it. I really want to do it.

Love them. Grew up with them, will never abandon them.

Only for how camp they were tbh. Like using a landline is so dramatic, let's bring it back!

If I'm living alone, then I don't mind them.  But if I'm sharing my space with roommates, friends, or family, then I'm not interested in everyone being up in my business about who is calling and why.  I don't need them to know that my dildo collection has been shipped, and the company decided to call to notify me.

I miss them for the inherent inaccessibility - oh I'm not home? Guess you can't reach me and you'll have to leave a message. I'll get to it when I return. Nowadays if I don't respond to any text within the hour, I'm getting a goddamn wellness call

Lowkey we need to bring that back and dumb down the smart phones to just text, gps, music apps. 
 

Smartphones were a huge mistake to society. When even the old people are addicted to app games and social media, who is going to lead us? Who is raising the kids? Everything seems so disjointed and rapidly declining in society now.

I loved them. You weren't expected to always be available.

Yeah they're cute but cellphones are more convenient and my parents still have one but they just get random spam calls nowadays because everyone has a cellphone 

I used to call my cousins two blocks away with our landline as a kid 

It's good to have one in the background, collecting calls/ messages on behalf of your home. Sometimes cellular service is down and landlines remain constant, still working in the background. Best of all, you have believable deniability over a voicemail you don't want to respond to.

As a person that practically gets paid talking to people using a landline, just gimme a second to cut the cords on every single landline and we'll all be much happier.
