Dessner is ok if you are free to make albums like folkmores.

 

If It has to be a pop album (whatever kind of pop you want) I don't think dessner is able to produce pop songs. Some AM songs are cute, track 19 is great, but all of them are weakest than anything on folkmore. If not for more mature lyrics production wise some of them sounds like mid red album tracks. Nothing special imo.

I see that she’s on a mission to **** me up for every single show, even with songs that are nowhere near my top 100…

Aaron would be perfect for a 90s pop/rock sound, the National's earlier music is the perfect blend of that sound ( Daughters of the Soho Riots, Murder Me Rachael, Lucky You, Theory of the Crows...), and of course, Taylor's melodies would make the melodies catchier. We already know she can do great things with that genre with songs like Hits Different, August, and Lover.

Yes to this - if she began with Mirrorball, Holy Ground, This Is Me Trying and State of Grace as sonic inspirations, it would be such a great record.

In terms of Midnights songs, Snow On The Beach actually benefitted a LOT from the piano version. It made the song just so much better. I wish we could get a studio version of that one. 

If thought this about the Midnights songs as secret songs myself. The ones I'd like to hear - Question, Maroon, Paris - all would fall kind of flat being acoustic.

 

YOYOK as a secret song just didn't work imo.

Time to add YOYOK to the fixed setlist.

The “Kiss Me” Sixpence None the Richer sort of vibe could really work for a whole album, and plays to Her strengths (guitar-based narrative songwriting) without going back to country.

I definitely not get that from the performance. She was smiling half the performance, and the other half she conveys the emotion of the song, just like she does on every song. But she did not seem particularly angry imo.
