It is an objective, stone-cold fact that streams were MUCH higher in 2024. Songs that charted at number 1 in 2026 would've been out of the top 10 in 2024.

Fortnight was obviously not a hit to the caliber of Ophelia, Espresso, or Birds. While Fortnight undoubtably benefited from a better streaming environment, the song itself obviously matters. Ophelia has racked up these streams despite an extremely significant streaming collapse since 2024.

oh no yeah i agree with you. for example, blank space is a fountain pen song and so is style but they're uptempo. same thing with all you had to do was stay

i love glitter gel pen songs like karma though, so one song thrown in there like that could be fun

but yeah, overall i want big and punchy production with insane lyrics that are still accessible and not to "quill pen". midnights is my 2nd favorite album from her and it was mostly chill and midtempo so it didn't really scratch that itch after folkmore.

You literally implied she didn't release in 2024 and in reality she did. We were told that MAX MARTIN is washed and doesn't have hits this decade but OPHELIA demolished Fortnight in everything

i LOVE this performance. it actually got me into listening to the lover album (i'd only listened to the singles before that point). it also led me to watch the lover concert special back when it was on hulu during the pandemic. i really liked it!

it continues to be one of my fav taylor swift albums. i was just watching the last kiss x i love you, i'm sorry mashup (another fav), and this woman and her guitar together are a spectacle! it reminded me of the cornelia street performance.

(also wtf is that thumbnail LMAO. i was trying so hard to find the vid. i scrolled past the official video a couple of times thinking it was willow )

Nothing I wrote implied that Taylor didn't release in 2024. I quite agree that Ophelia demolishes Fortnight in terms of hit potential!

I only implied that Ophelia would've run up similar, if not better, numbers to Birds and Espresso if it received the 2024 algorithm and Eras Tour boost. It obviously dog walked Fortnight's performance despite Fortnight benefiting from those things.

I would really like to know how can Taylor flip the script with TS13

As much as I hate to admit it, I hate to see her get panned (atleast I could defend her with TTPD but Showgirl is definitely not it)

The snarkers would be ready to bandwagon hate immediately after the album drops and not let anyone make their own opinions on the music

I know for a fact that she'd want this album to be her magnum opus and do something to surprise us (or atleast I hope)

I feel bad for taylor with music sometimes hundreds of thousands of people that truly dont know what they want from her but they want it their specific way. "Go country but dont flop! Go back to sad songs! No, do happy songs but can you stop being cringe?? Where's the rock album? Where's jack? Eww jack again? Shes too wordy. She cant write anymore, it's too simple"

i hope she just does what shes passionate about and goes with her gut instead of course correcting so harshly. Red,1939, folklore, evermore, ttpd i think are some of her best works and they've all been spontaneous or her following her gut. People saying new producers are probably right, she has a new wave of inspiration when she's with a new producer, aaron I feel is her other half musically so maybe working with him and new producers would create an amazing album. Though idk why suddenly critics matter especially to that crowd that would post that stupid "they dont make statues of critics " or whatever shirt constantly about their faves

that's why at this point she's making the music she wants to make.

i think showgirl is actually the music that spoke to her at the time of her writing it, and her writing these extra 4 songs is her way of saying "i don't care about pleasing the public anymore" as they are just never gonna be happy with her work.

artists are supposed to make whatever THEY want to make so idk why she would care what other people think. that's why she's the artist and we are the fans.

What they really want from Taylor:

A generic catchy pop bop for the gays but make it sophisticated, prove your Joni Mitchell and Madonna at the same time. But don't alienate the GP! It has to be a hit that radio will embrace but also fresh and relatable to be viral on TikTok. It has to change the world but also not so much to trigger political discussions. That's all!

So easy!
