they were always the highlight of any award ceremony photos

Katy joining the hive is what pushed Rihanna away. 

They were photographed at like every award show together between 2010 and 2013 and then it ended so suddenly

As if Katy Perry didn't have questionable dating history herself at the time ( Russell Brand and John Mayer)

 

I doubt that was the reason.

People change and their lives get busy.

I don't think it was a fake friendship. The majority of friendships are not for life, especially when you change your career-path. 

Not everyone can have a friendship like the one Taylor and Selena Gomez have. 

If they collabed sometime during Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection and Loud/Talk That Talk with even a remotely-impressive video? Diamond single right now.

 

Ester Dean x StarGate (Firework, Peacock, Rude Boy, Only Girl In The World, What's My Name, S&M) seems like a great meeting point sonically. This didn't make Femme Fatale but definitely would've suited either set of projects.

I heard the same.  Rih lost a lot of respect with "Nobody's Business" and the "Birthday Cake" Remix.

Honestly though. The two biggest hitmakers of our generation teaming up on a collab would've brought the house down and made an instant classic
