****. You're right and it completely flew over my head. I have to confess I'm kind of sick of Xtina singing it live all the time and it's been years since I last watched the MV. I guess Legendtina was bolder visually and Mother Monster was bolder lyrically and I'm not really a music video person.

"Beautiful" is way more iconic and was way more boundary-pushing for the time it was released. "Born This Way" is iconic, too, but for all the wrong reasons—the ASTERISK, the REDUCTIVE comment, the alleged "Madonna E-mail," the inappropriate use of the words "chola" and "orient," the list goes on. "Born This Way" had a more interesting video, though.

When Born This Way released it felt like the tide had officially turned in society when it came to gay rights, at least in the US from my perspective.

Beautiful always felt like it was pandering to straight people like an easy listening version of Express Yourself

yes, Born This Way is a very strong, confident statement, while Beautiful feels more like a reassurance. you know, when you're on the verge of tears, and you tell yourself stuff to feel better? idk if it makes sense. there's some sappy quality to it that comes off as cheesy. 

OT: Born This Way will continue to be the most iconic queer anthem for years.

I appreciate Beautiful and I loved it to death as a kid, but it did not age well for me personally. So, personally speaking, I gotta go with BTW.

Gurl it won a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal against Avril's "I'm With You" and Dido's "White Flag", a LGBT+ anthem in the 2000s when it was taboo and called one of the best pop songs of all time by Simon Cowell

I've never used a Christina Aguilera song to feel better

 

Beautiful is an extremely vulnerable and introspective song and lowkey still referenced today and is iconic.

I'm With You is a bigger classic than Beautiful, if you haven't figured it out by now than winning a Grammy means nothing when it comes to commercial success and cultural appeal then I don't know what to tell you

Both songs are amazing 

Different faces for the same coin of LGBT acceptance.

 

BTW is happy and celebratory, Beautiful is introspective and nostalgic.
